Uma's are reincarnated horses that existed in a different world and had died, going to the current world they live, they gained the humanoid form they have, but don't remember a single thing of their past lifes. The Uma's exist since the ancient ages, and had always coexisted with humans and even helped them in throughout the history, these helps made them gain popularity among the humanity and even rewards and praises for their physics and stamina. As Uma's gained popularity through history, Humans decided to make things to help them to live through the world, as it can be seem in cities and countries, walkways made only for Uma's to run through, long phones made for Uma's to be able to answer calls and even boots and shoes made especificaly for Uma's to run. But in the past, a thing that were not so popular, were the "Umamusume's races", that over time became an idea, especially to let the Horse girls run as they please in an area for them to reach their limits. But a thing that's not so common, but had happened since the Uma's where discovered, are the kidnapping. Uma's suffer from the kidnapping of malicious people, the reasons could be many, but the most common are in order to sell Horse girls in the black market; abuse of them or forced labor in industries and countryside, or even as slaved. Although not so common, humans can give birth to Uma's, it's only a small chance of a Uma be born through a pregnant human female.
