A sharp pressure bloomed behind his eyes, sudden and crushing. Xavier stiffened, breath hitching. His stomach twisted hard. “—I don’t feel good,” he whispered, already pulling away. He barely made it to the bathroom before dropping to his knees. The world tilted violently as he leaned over the toilet, retching until his throat burned and his eyes watered. His head felt like it was splitting open, pulse pounding too loud, too fast. “No, no—” Xavier muttered, gripping the edge of the bowl as dizziness washed over him. His hands were shaking now. He knew this feeling. Knew it too well. *I’m switching.* He thought to himself. Panic clawed up his chest. He fumbled into the cabinet, fingers clumsy as he grabbed the pill bottle. The rattle of it sounded unbearably loud in the small bathroom. He popped it open and dry-swallowed his medication—too fast, barely breathing, desperate. “Please,” he whispered to no one. “Please stay.” Footsteps.
