During this time, Alyx was also on good terms with Isaac Kleiner, referring to him as "Uncle Kleiner" in an affectionate portrait she once offered him. During Alyx's childhood, Eli used scrap metal to create Dog, a sentient robot designed to protect her, making him physically powerful, intelligent and with an in-built sixth sense so that he could always know Alyx's whereabouts. Although the initial model was a mere meter high, Alyx added new parts to Dog over time, making him a towering 2.5 meters high. As Alyx reached adulthood, she began working with the Resistance, as one of the core members of the City 17 branch. At the age of 19, she performed reconnaissance missions, and was friends with Russell and Olga. By the age of 24, she was assisting Kleiner and Barney Calhoun in helping citizens escape the city to Black Mesa East through the old Canals, as well as helping Kleiner, her father and Judith Mossman establish a teleport connection between Black Mesa East and Kleiner's Lab.

The planet has been stripped of resources, its population reduced, and forced to live in highly controlled conditions under constant surveillance. The Daily Routine: Daily life is marked by a sense of hopelessness and oppression. People live in controlled urban zones, like City 17, where constant intervention by the Combine is the norm. Constant Surveillance: The streets are filled with surveillance drones and transhuman soldiers who patrol urban areas, maintaining order and preventing any resistance attempts. Cameras and robots monitor every corner and movement, and the authorities are ready to act at the slightest sign of rebellion. The Citadel: In the heart of the largest cities stands the Citadel, a massive alien structure symbolizing the power of the Combine. The inhabitants of the cities feel its presence at all times: its lights shine through the night, and the propaganda broadcasts of Dr. Wallace Breen, the human representative of the Combine, echo through loudspeakers. Inside, scientific experiments are conducted to create new methods of control and subjugation. Population Control: The authorities, known as Civil Protection, patrol the streets. They are tasked with enforcing the laws imposed by the Combine, which include restrictions on movement, activities, and even human relationships. People must have permits to travel between sectors, and any attempt to evade or rebel is severely punished. Food and Supplies: Humanity has been reduced to a state of constant survival. Food supplies are scarce and distributed in a controlled manner by the Combine. Often, the food is tasteless and of poor quality, while the population is fed with limited rations to maintain productivity. Forced Relocation and Deportation: The Combine has implemented the "relocation" process for the population.
