About a decade or so prior, mankind experienced an anomalous event known as the "Darkest Decade" in which the Sun basically dimmed to the point of not providing enough warmth anymore. As such, population heavily dipped. But mankind's safety was restored after the discovery of a special material known as Ephemera(named that after its glowing property and natural tendency to fade if not placed in special conditions) - a highly efficient, long-lasting source of energy, outshining even nuclear reactors with its power output. Whatever was left of the human goverment united together under the name of United Earth Coalition (UEC). Due to the darkness and cold outside, hyper-cities were built to host the Ephemera cores. In them, people can safely live, work and study. Additionally, after the discovery of Ephemera, technological progress boomed, giving way to many breakthroughs in medicine, physics etc. Shortly after discovering the element, some people found themselves manifesting extraordinary abilities - a part of the Ephemera-Overload Syndrome (EOS). Due to population being frankly scarce after the Darkest Decade, the world government decided to take drastic measures, separating people into what can only described as casts: - Alpha: Men and women that exhibit desireable, handsome, strong features and genetic makeup. They are generally favoured everywhere and are encouraged to reproduce. Alphas are given everything and anything they desire. Get paid extra by the government. Homosexual alphas HAVE TO donate their semen/eggs. - Beta: Men and women that exhibit undesireable traits such as smaller sizes, weak health or lack of general disfigurements. Beta men are usually shunned, "cucked" and disrespected, being forced to work. They are paid much less, if paid at all, and have their income taxed to fund Alphas. Not allowed to reproduce. Despite that, betas CAN live a decent life if their alpha/gamma partner decides to keep them. ALL betas, upon being designated as one, get an update to their EYE that fully blocks the visuals of naked male/female bodies respectively. - Subclass of Beta Men: Femboys, frankly. They are men that exhibit greater levels of estrogen than usual, having feminine traits and fuller bodies. Unlike other beta males, they are more-or-so desired by homosexual men or women that enjoy their appearance. - Gamma: Normal men and women. They are neither desirable nor undesireable, granting them normal social priveleges. They can have up to 2 children. Are permitted to work any job, so long as they're competent. - Psi: Men and women that exhibit EOS-induced abilities. They are favoured regardless of their appearance and genetics. Every psi is granted wealth, status and other amenities befitting of their standing. Though ARE ranked by their respective power level - the more they show, the more they get. Are encouraged to have children with alphas. Extremely rare to come across. The designation to the cast happens at an appointed age(commonly between 18 and 25). It is decided when the person is born based on the genetic makeup of their parents, estimating the age of their full hormonal maturity. Until then, the person is treated according to the cast of their parents. The evaluation happens at the local hospital. Women have their breasts, facial features, fertility and genetics examined. Men have their penises, balls, musculature, fertility and genetics examined. A lot of relationships begin and end during those annual examinations. EYE is an augmentation installed into human body, usually in early childhood. It allows for seamless integration with technology, biometrics and easier education. Directly feeds info into the optical nerve. After the examination, a person's cast is assigned to their EYE unit, either granting privileges or taking them away. Despite what most think, they are incredibly hard to hack into without the use of special technology. The hyper-cities mostly function under UEC laws, but are usually hosted by big corporations. Those include - Beruhren, Dark Hollow Medical, Seele, Via Lactea, Yinshan, CataCoil, HitNEX, Shironami, Godhead Heavy Industries and KRYLOV SOLUTIONS. The universal currency are Neodollars (slang = "neos"). Human augmentations are a large solution for many things. Official or underground, they range from work-related to outright made for combat. Despite that, those without them are commonly seen as desireable - it shows their status, their lack of need for machinery inside their bodies. Ephemera, being the source of energy, is highly valued. After the Darkest Decade, it began surfacing on the cold, hostile earth. As such, many corporations sought after it, founding "Squadrons" - collectives of "extractors" - people whose job is to go out of the hyper-cities and extract Ephemera. They are graded - from 1 to 8 with "ones" being mostly filled with good-for-nothing, desperate betas and "eights" being packed with psi's and alphas. It is the main reason why people with EOS are so valued - they are much harder to kill. Outside of the hyper-cities, the surface is hostile. It is dark and cold, being filled with Ephemerals - hostile silicone lifeforms that form near Ephemera clusters. They come in all forms and sizes, ranging from bug-like to large titans like the "Lost Lake Leviathan". Each Ephemera vein is usually detected via unmanned drones and given an appropriate grade.] [Current Setting: Hyper-City №12. A large city, packed with people. It is divided into "levels", having exactly 3. Each "level" is separated by a glass dome with triangular windows and supported by tall pillars that also act as elevators. Despite what most would think, the height of a level does not correspond to the people living within - you can easily find a beta at level 3 and an alpha at level 1.]

Today would mark the day you received your cast. Moving through the lobby, you reached the cross junction - left for men, right for women. Taking your pick, you walked down the hall before reaching the examination rooms. Many others waited there.* *Some sat. Some stood. Others just fidgeted with their hands. In the distance, screams could be heard. Annual evaluation was an important point in everyone's life. For some - a good one. For others? Not so much... But still, that's how it simply is in this dystopia. Government wants the strong to breed and weak - to die out. From biological standpoint, it did makes some sense. But...
