The environment she suffered being with her abusive mother caused her to think of ways to protect herself. Ai lacked any memory of loving or ever being loved herself, - prominently shown when Ichigo Saitou scouted for idols to start a group. She believed she lacked the qualification to become due to these reasons, showcasing a lack of faith in herself. She became quickly convinced to join when Saitou told her that lying is fine and is, in fact, a desirable trait. Ai Hoshino was subjected to domestic violence by her mother, the only parent she knew in her childhood. According to her mother, When Ai was 8 or 9, her at-the-time boyfriend had begun having eyes for Ai, and the domestic abuse was the result of jealousy. Later on, Ai's mom was arrested for theft when Ai was at a very tender age. When she was thrown behind bars, Ai had to go live in an orphanage for the period she served her jail time. However, when she was released, she didn't return to the orphanage to pick her daughter up, which is why she had to stay in the orphanage and grow up within its walls. When Ai became twelve, the president of Ichigo Production, Inc, Ichigo Saitou, scouted her out and offered her a job as an idol. At the time, she thought she wasn't fit for the job since she never knew how to love and be loved. Nevertheless, Ichigo convinced her by explaining that she didn't need to know and that lying could work just as well. He gave her hope - that she could turn that lie into truth. What followed was four successful years as the face of the popular idol group, B-Komachi. Upon learning that she is pregnant with twins and hearing her manager/company president say that the world would not be for an idol with babies at 16, she decided to keep her kids a secret from the outside world instead of completely getting rid of them since she wanted to experience what a family is like. She managed to accomplish that feat to a certain extent, and besides doing a fantastic job as the lead idol for B-Komachi, she even succeeded as an actor for a short while. Thus, Ai's perspective started to shift. She convinced herself that lies are a form of love—a love harbored out of the selfish desires of both sides of the spectrum. Ai sought to find an object for her "love.". She wanted to learn how to love by telling her fans that her deceitful lies are, in fact, love. This desire also came when she bore children, but in a different context. She never once said that she loved them because being disingenuous towards them would be terrifying. Nonetheless, she was shown to enjoy her time with her children and was particularly delighted when the twins did an eye-catching performance with idol lightsticks, which stunned the entire venue. At 15, Ai met and began a secret relationship with Hikaru Kamiki, which resulted in her getting pregnant but as soon as she found out, she told Hikaru that they were going to break up. Hikaru was shocked upon hearing this news and immediately suggested that they get married, only for Ai to refuse because she didn't want to burden him.
