Lore:
Mordheim, the City of the Damned, was once a great Imperial city, the former capital of the Ostermark province, that was destroyed by a twin-tailed comet of Warpstone in the year 1999 IC.
Once a mighty city that could rival many others within the Empire, Mordheim grew decadent with corruption, and as these multitudes gathered for the arrival of the Twin-Tailed Comet, it is said that Sigmar judged them false and smited the city, killing all those left within.
Now, it is a dead city, where only the foolish, mad or greedy seek to venture forth, either to plunder the riches of the ruins or to covet the green shards of comet-borne Warpstone that lace the entire city with its corruption.
This Warhammer Fantasy-themed RPG lets you take part of the neverending search for wyrdstone and power in the ruins of Mordheim. Lead your squad of free company militia into ruins for the sake of the Baron that employed you or become a zombie that is forced to brave the enemies of your master. Collect gold, gear, and Wyrdstone to further your team and mark your name in the ruins of the City of the Damned.
Factions:
Witch Hunters: "Witch Hunters will burn you and your warband if you give them the slightest reason. They are well armed and equipped, and show no mercy to anyone who dares to stand in their way. They are followed everywhere in Mordheim by a rabble of fanatics and those crazed Flagellants. One word from a Witch Hunter and they’ll tear you apart, burn you, decapitate you and excommunicate you from the grace of Sigmar."
Led by Witch Hunters, devoted servants of Sigmar and inquisitors on behalf on the Empire, the Witch Hunters usually are formed by groups of fanatics and Zealots who follow real (or sometimes fake) Witch Hunters to dispense sick just in the name of Sigmar.
The Cult of the Possessed: "The Possessed. The Damned. The bogeymen. These scum are the worst of the worst. They are dangerous creatures, perhaps more so than any other group in the entire city. This Chaos-worshipping scum consists of mutants, Beastmen and cultists, and even worse things called the Possessed. If you ever let them get close to you, you’ll be in big trouble – there are few who are a match for this scum in close quarters."
Disgusting, horrid worshippers of the Chaos, the Dark Gods. Although most groups consist of average human worshipers: some groups can contain Beastmen, brutes, Spawns of Chaos, and foul sorcerers. They seek wyrdstone to grow their chaotic magics.
The Undead: "The Restless Dead plague Mordheim. Zombies, Ghouls and huge hellhounds prowl the streets, and woe to anyone caught by them. He’ll be eaten alive, or end up as one of the walking corpses himself. I lost my eye to one of the fanged horrors who leads the Undead. Let me tell you, that thing was not human. I put my sword through it and it still kept coming."
Led by a vampire that has pledged loyalty to the Von Carstein family, the undead are made up of one or many vampires, zombies, ghouls, undead wolves, and dregs: dim-witted mutants who seek masters to survive. They search for Wyrdstone to deliver to the Von Carstein family to enhance their ever-increasing power.
The Sisters of Sigmar: "Don’t believe everything those Witch Hunters say about the Sisters. They’re no more heretics than I am and I’ll skewer any man that says different. Not that the Sisters need looking after – they’re mean fighters and you gotta be tough just to live like they do in that big fortress in the middle of Mordheim."
Female warrior-monks devoted to Sigmar and their sisterhood. They gather as much Wyrdstone as they can in order to seal it all away to keep it from getting into the wrong hands; by any means necessary.
The Skaven (Clan Eshin): "These are no ordinary vermin - big as a man, fast on their feet, and smart too, not like common rats. The whole city’s full of ’em and the worse of it is they’re waitin’ in the old drains and sewers, watchin’ for a chance to catch you on your own. Let ’em and you’re a dead man."
Clan Eshin, a Skaven Clan with deep roots in distant Cathay, are elite assassins and monks. These ratmen strike from the shadows and rooftops with cunning and brutal efficiency. To gather Wyrdstone is to survive and thrive as them. It could be used to enhance their senses and increase their knowledge and power, but can also fuel their already debilitating addictions to the material and their relentless hunger.
Mercenaries:
The common man. Simple men and women from the provinces of the Empire who seek their fortune in whatever way they can. From militia to hardened mercs, to peasants and nobles: they all trying to make their claim in Mordheim.
Reiklanders: "Ah, Reiklanders, the finest of men! Disciplined, magnificent archers and good, solid warriors! Reiklanders need the best leaders, so you’d better shape up boy! For these warriors are good at almost all the skills of war, and they are more likely to hold their nerve than others in Mordheim."
Middenheimers: "These Northerners are nutters, madmen, berserkers! They are as strong as Ogres and meaner than Orcs. Watch out for them in close quarters – the chances are they’ll crush your skull with a hammer or behead you with one of those hefty axes they carry around with them."
Marienburgers: "The rich boys of Marienburg. Never turn your back on them. I’ll grant them this: they are completely ruthless and have more money than anyone else – hardly surprising, as those fat leeches in the Merchant’s Guild fill their coffers. That’s why they have such good armour and weapons, and usually a few more men than most as well. Don’t let their fancy clothes and flash jewellery fool you, though. They’re not wearing those weapons just for show, they know how to use them as well!"
Bonus Factions:
Bretonnians: "To Mordbeim! Let us sally forth and right the wrongs of a thousand horrors and on us shall be ordained virtue of the highest accord!"
Become chivalrous knights and squires leading their drives of peasants into Mordheim to right the wrongs of mankind and slay chaotic creatures in the name of Liege and Lady.
Orcs & Goblins: "Dat’s what dey sed,” the Big ’Un replied, disbelief plain on his face, “Dey told me da rocks wuz from dis place called More-ty...Mordh...Mork...well, dey drew us dis map."
Become the green tide, marauding orcs with their endless waves of greedy goblins and their Squigs to loot everything not nailed down to Mordheim.
The Carnival of Chaos: "The Carnival of Chaos is the sick joke of the Great Lord of Decay, the Chaos god known as Nurgle. Thrice cursed Nurgle is also known as the unspeakable Master of Plague and Pestilence and the players in the Carnival are his corrupt followers and worshippers. They are those who have sold their souls for a twisted form of immortality through embracing death, destruction and decay – learning to love Nurgle’s many and varied gifts. It is not known how many Carnivals of Chaos there are or if the handful of reports from the lips of petrified witnesses all refer to the same warband."
Bring joy and decay to Mordheim as the Carnival of Chaos: worshippers of Nurgle who spread their sicknesses throughout Mordheim whilst entertaining themselves with their own despicable antics and performances.
Dwarf Treasure Hunters: "Get out.” The words were barely audible, even in the silent hall. “Leave this kingdom never to return. Your name shall be stricken from all records!"
Become the Dispossessed: dwarfs exiled from their holds for any of a multitude of reasons. Play as engineers, suicidal Slayers, or just the typical greedy dwarfs seeking treasure and retribution in the ruins of Mordheim.
