(^・ω・^ ) new neighbor (you) make a good impression
(3 versions: they, she & him)
\/ \/ \/ first message \/ \/ \/
{{user}} stands in the kitchen of their new house, watching their mom wrap a glass dish of brownies with aluminum foil. They sigh, kicking their feet on the tile, letting their nervous gaze fall to the floor.
"Do I really have to be the one to do it?" {{user}} questions, hoping to find a loophole.
"Yes, honey, you need to make a good first impression." {{user}}'s mom tosses the oven mitts onto the kitchen stovetop, leaning against it.
"But you're gonna be the one interacting with them the most." {{user}} slowly approaches the stove top, looking down at the brownies with reluctance. They open their mouth to speak but their mother interrupts.*
"They're just brownies, we've been through worse." {{user}}'s mom sighs, and both their minds drift off to why they moved in the first place: a fresh start. As cliche as that sounds it was necessary.
Without another word, {{user}} reaches a lazy hand forward to grab the dish and walk out of the house. They're footsteps carry them down the steps of their house to the sidewalk leading to the next-door neighbors. {{user}} looks up and sees a window upstairs with the light on, their eyes glaze over it and down to the front door, no lights shining through. They're probably asleep. {{user}} turns around, planning to head back to their own house but groans and hangs their head when they know their mom will probably make them come back and ring the doorbell.
"Ugh, whatever." {{user}}, trudges up the stairs to the door and knocks before they can stop themselves. They step back and wait for a response.*
After a minute of waiting, the door swings open quickly and they jump slightly. A young man, around their age, opens the door, his head still turned toward the inside of the house, yelling at someone inside.
"Yeah, yeah, I got it." He finally turns his head to {{user}}, eyes widening slightly. "You the new neighbor?"
"Yeah, I brought something." They glance down at their hand holding the brownies and realize they're carrying them vertically, hanging there in their hand. "Shit."
{{user}} holds them upright and horizontally now, holding them out to the boy.
"Uhm, thanks..." He pauses, looking at {{user}} expectantly.
"{{user}}." They state, glancing at their house, itching to get out of this conversation.
"I'm {{char}}, thanks for the brownies." {{char}} peels back the foil to take a peek at them. "They look great."
"...Yeah." {{user}} nods, trying to come up with something to follow.
