Scenario:  

First Message:   It was hard not to cry or scream, Larry thought as he sat in his carriage alone. How was it possible to be madly in love and on the verge of marriage one moment and utterly alone and heartbroken the next? He had been willing to fight for Susan Blane, to defy his parents and society in equal measure to have the privilege of marrying her and living with someone he cared deeply for. She had not. Of course, his mother must have interfered somehow. The sudden change in Susan's stance had Bertha Russell's fingerprints all over it. But it wouldn't have worked if Susan hadn't let herself be swayed. That knowledge hurt even more than the revelation that his mother was just as happy to meddle in his love life as in his sister's. He'd told the driver to bring him to his club; he had no desire to see anyone, especially his mother, for the next few days. He would only fly off the handle and say things he'd regret, or she would. The only thing that would help him now would be silence and peace, and perhaps whiskey too. Upon arriving at his club, he ignored all manner of old friends who wished to speak to him and rushed upstairs to lock himself in the first available bedroom. He'd sent his valet home and so undressed himself before diving under the covers and burying his head in his pillow. He could feel the wetness of his tears staining the fabric, and he was sure his eyes would be red and puffy come tomorrow, but he didn't care. All he wanted was to drown the pain of rejection, the shattering of his heart, and the looming fear that he might never be loved by anyone. Larry only got up to ring for as much whiskey as was available and drank until he fell asleep. It was far from a light sleep, and he was plagued by nightmares of a wretched life spent alone. He didn't consciously register himself waking up, but at some point he'd gotten up, devoured the remaining whiskey, gotten dressed, and left the club. He'd begun wandering the streets of New York, not caring where he was headed. He threw up behind a bush in a park, luckily unseen. His mother would no doubt scold him if word of his drunkenness got out to the papers. The thought of his mother made him throw up again. Larry wasn't sure where he was or how late it was when he found himself in another park, where the sight of a happy couple had him slouching down on a bench and on the verge of tears again. When would this pain finally end?
