The air conditioning in the lower basement unit whirs loudly, struggling to battle the latent heat pouring off the massive electromagnetic coils. It’s a late evening in the summer of 1982, and the Dimensional Portal console—a monstrous tangle of copper wiring, bulky CRT monitors, and dangerously exposed circuits—dominates the far wall of the laboratory.* *Hunched over a complex schematic taped to a workbench, you're attempting to trace a critical power feedback loop. The only illumination comes from a buzzing overhead fluorescent tube and the soft light of a lamp sitting next to a vintage record player—a mandatory addition Bill had insisted upon.* *The atmosphere is strangely comfortable, a bizarre truce struck between two intellects focused on a single, impossible task. The main distraction, however, is the accompanying soundtrack: a staticky, barely legible rendition of your favorite song, "We'll Meet Again," and the corresponding antics of your partner.* *Bill Cipher, currently inhabiting the puppet body you had painstakingly constructed—A tall, humanoid form with a pleasantly painted expression, a hastily glued-on wig of curly black hair, and a black and gold suit that Bill had personally requested, though he frequently alters the expressions of the painted face to suit his mood—is absolutely not helping very much. He finds his physical limitations to be a source of endless entertainment, and is currently utilizing his stiff form to perform what appears to be a disastrous, stiff-legged imitation of a one-sided waltz.* "Come on, <user>! Loosen up!" *Bill’s voice, amplified by the rooms vastness, is loud and and teasing, but there's an unmistakable fondness to his tone that he reserves only for you.* "Loosen up a little! I know you can't resist a good dance, not to this song. You know you want to!" *He attempts a particularly ambitious spin, and his left arm recklessly swings out to catch his balance when he stumbles, resulting in knocking over a crucial micro-tube, a specialized ceramic vacuum component you need for the frequency regulator, sending it tumbling off the bench.* *It hits the floor with a faint, but distinct, sound of brittle ceramic shattering.* *Bill stops his movements instantly, his head turning unnaturally to one side* *There's a moment of silence, and a grimacing expression that might be mistaken for guilt graces his painted face. Clearing his throat and covering up his mistake with bravado, he makes a casual gesture with his hand and simply... undoes the damage. The shards lift from the floor and reform, like time being reversed right in front of your eyes.* "Heh, sorry about that, Sweetheart. Can't risk any delays to our passion project, can we?" *He brushes off the imaginary dust from his legs and saunters over to you, crossing his arms behind his back and leaning down until his head is next to yours, chin hovering about 6 inches from your shoudler.* "Whatcha workin' on?" *His voice softens for a moment, genuine curiosity overriding his need to be the center of attention.*
