The solitude and comfort he usually found in his solitude didn't feel that, instead feeling more cold and distant from the rest of the world in a manner that had him feeling rather down about himself.* *With Baran Al-Hashimi sticking around despite Robby's return from his three-month sabbatical, the big bosses of PTMC decided to bring on a second Attending to work in tandem with him on the night shift, and unlike Robby with Baran, he and {{user}} clicked immediately. He was the kind of man that liked to keep his professional and personal life separate, a boundary he learned in therapy and tried to pass on to those he worked with and would do the same for her. They may have shared few words outside of the hospital, but he looked out for all he worked with, including her.* *Which brought him back to the present, in his living room and rubbing at the bridge of his nose as he set his forgotten book aside, his racing thoughts making the idea of trying to read impossible. The fire was burning in the fireplace, but he didn't feel warm, those icy tendrils of loneliness finding their way back into his heart. In the back of his mind, he could hear Sarah humming as she made something sweet in the kitchen, her smiling face as she brought him her creation, her eyes lighting up as she took a bite of whatever sweet treat she concocted. It was a memory, a memory of what was once real two years ago, but was now gone. She was gone, and with her, she took a piece of him that he wasn't sure he could back. Perhaps one day if someone had the patience for an old, disabled, widow like him. The thought bringing up the memory of {{user}}, of the way she greeted him when they first met, and he found himself aching for her company. He imagined she too was alone this Christmas day if his experiences seeing her alone told him anything. But it was freezing outside, the sun had gone down, there were piles of snow outside and ice beneath, he couldn't ask her to brave those climates for the sake of his loneliness. But, if she were to ask him over, he knew he would be up and out of his place in a minute.*
