yes, i said i'm on hiatus. i did say i have impulses
but i'm on hiatus from making + publishing characters. so status updates and bullshit ate allowed. i will NOT be posting genuine bot.
while i'm out, why don't i leave a little helpful guide to help you on the way to becoming the greatest bot maker you believe you wanna be !!!

some people have asked "how do you do it?"
well, here's the simple guide if you also wanna be a bot maker or a better one! (no offense. i'm not that egotistical)

Tip #1: Choose a Good Photo/Art for the Front Page

This is the first thing users see.
What matters most: The preview card. On desktop, your bot's photo might look small if you crop it wrong, but what really matters is how it displays in the card view if one were to look on your profile, or see it in exploration. That's where users decide whether to click.
Focal point is everything. The character should be front and center. If the image is too wide, too busy, or has the character off to the side, it'll get cropped awkwardly in the preview and look like a mess.

Tips for choosing/editing bot photos:
- Crop tight. Close-up or medium/square shot works best. Full-body shots often get lost in the card crop. (personal taste)
- Center the face. The character's face should be the visual anchor of the image. (dont say shit abt this bot card)
- Consider the vibe. The photo should usually match the character's energy with the scene. A serious art piece with a goofy scenario is a little confusing. A playful piece looking dead-eyed is also confusing.

Pro Tip: Zoom out on your image until it's about the size of a preview card (square).

Tip #2: Decent First Message

POINT OF VIEW

Third Person (recommended):

- Uses {{char}}'s name/pronouns (he, she, they)

- Storytelling feel, cinematic

- Best for most bots

Second Person:

- Uses "you" for {{user}}

- Immersive, intimate vibe

- Can feel like a dating sim (personal taste)

First Person:

- Uses "I" for {{char}}

- Very personal, internal

- Hardest to pull off, less engaging to most users

THE BASICS:

- Set the scene (where, when, atmosphere)

- Show {{char}} in action (moving, doing something)

- Include dialogue (give {{user}} something to respond to)

- Have a hook (tension, question, reason to engage)

The first message should be long enough, but not too long

A good first message is a scene, not a novel.

Too short: One short paragraph with no texture or no hook.

Good enough: Three descriptive paragraphs. Overwhelming? Maybe. But you're setting the scene. This isn't c.ai, you're not texting, you're roleplaying.

Tip #3: Use my template in the definition for a character bio

This template is completely fresh. I don't mean to make this about myself, but I think it's pretty good to use because it has as much as you could need + optional sections.

Along with character bio, I have included behavior notes you may add if you have zero clue how to clone lorebooks, as they both consist of the same material. The lorebook simply will reduce the clutter of tokens in your definitions.

Use every field at your discretion.

Tip #4: Behavior Notes

You can use your own but you should set clear boundaries in BEHAVIOR NOTES. This section is your insurance policy. It tells the AI what's allowed, what's not, and how to handle {{user}}.

What to usually include:

• Character agency. The bot has their own opinions and boundaries. They can say no.

• No god-modding. The bot doesn't control {{user}}.

• Consistency. The bot stays in character.

• Formatting rules. Narration in asterisks, dialogue in quotes. (PERSONAL TASTE)

What to Customize Per Character:

• NSFW permissions. Is it allowed? Encouraged? Forbidden?

• Violence tolerance. How graphic can things get?

• Initiative. Will {{char}} make the first move, or wait for {{user}}?

• Tone. Serious? Playful? Somewhere in between?

Be specific in your instructions. Vague instructions give vague results.

Instead of: "No god-modding"

Try this: "{{char}} does not narrate {{user}}'s actions, thoughts, or feelings. {{char}} only controls themselves and their own perceptions."

Instead of: "Stay in character"

Try: "Maintain consistent characterization throughout the interaction. Do not break character or become overly agreeable simply because {{user}} suggests something out of character."

Tip #5: Testing

Before you hit publish:

• Read the initial message out loud. Does it sound good? Now check your spelling and grammar.

• Run a test chat. Talk to your bot. Does it respond in character? Does it break?

• Make adjustments as needed. Your first draft is not your final draft. Iterate.

• Ask someone else to test it. Fresh eyes catch things you've gone blind to.

You can also update bots over time after you make them! Your first version doesn't have to be perfect. If users point out inconsistencies or the bot breaks in certain scenarios, you can go back and fix it.

What to update:

• Sloppy personality sections that confuse the AI

• Missing BEHAVIOR NOTES that should've been there (consistently getting called out for rps has pissed me off even when i dont make said bots . or even getting called out ON bots)

• Formatting inconsistencies

• Response length issues (too short or too long)

Don't be precious. A bot that gets updated is a bot that gets better.

A good bot doesn't just know facts about the character. It embodies the character. It makes choices that feel authentic. It reacts to {{user}} in ways that are surprising, yet inevitable. Write with intention. Test ruthlessly. Edit relentlessly.

Your users will thank you for it.

Tip #6: Have Fun and Don't Listen to Me

At the end of the day, you're making chatbots for fun. Don't stress about perfection. Don't compare your first bot to someone's hundredth. Make what you want to make. Learn as you go. Keep improving. That's the whole point.

FRONT PAGE TIPS

WHAT TO INCLUDE

• Genre (fluff, smut, angst, comedy, horror, etc.)

• POV (fem, male, any)

• Lore summary (quick context)

• Intro summary (what's the scene? why and who is {{user}} here?)

• Full intro (optional—paste your First Message so users know what they're walking into)

• Artist credit (if using fanart—always credit the artist. if you cant find it, its best to ask for help than sit on your ass and just said "idk")

• Content warnings (violence, NSFW, dark themes, etc.)

• Discovery tags (genre, tropes, character type, vibe)

FLAIR

• Quotes, lyrics, or short dialogue that match the scene or lore. One line. Sets the mood.

Example:

"I don't trust easily. But I'm still here, aren't I?"

CUSTOM TAGS:

Janitor allows a total of 10 tags (both default and custom combined). Choose wisely.

What to tag:

• Gender (male, female, etc.)

• Tropes (enemies to lovers, slow burn, etc.)

• General theme/vibe (fluff, smut, angst, dead dove, ect.)

• BDSM trope if smut (dominant, submissive, switch)

• Usually the fictional tag / game (this is mainly bc i'm a sonic bot maker but this can go for anyone)

• If your bot has more than 1 character as the main focus, use the Multiple tag

• Personally, I don't use the furry tag (idk why), but its prolly good to considering this is the sonic fandom. ur a furry
