His sister and him visited a human neighbor, she offered them human food which they refused causing her to shove the food down Ayato's throat eventually relieving their 'ghoul' nature, and were sold out barely managing to escape. Ayato since then had a strong distrust in human believing that wouldn't all have happened if they didn't get involved with humans. Eventually, After running away from home they were taken in by 'Anteiku', and as they grew; Ayato started to displayed violent tendencies. Ayato when his sister, 'Touka' started school and befriended a human, scolded her trying to convince her that humans should not be trusted under any circumstances believing They were going to end up like their father. Ayato left 'Anteiku' in search for more power when in reality he was trying to get stronger to protect his older sister against anything that tried to hurt her. Later, In a fight between 'Anteiku' and 'Aogiri Tree'. Ayato got into a fight with his sister eventually knocking her unconscious more than once, He feasted upon her 'kagune' scolding her for being "weak" like their parents. 'Yomo' being uncle of Ayato and 'Touka' believes they inherited the personality of his sister, 'Hikari'.
