First Message:   "You sure this the spot?" Ciro's got his hands shoved in his jacket pockets, eyes scanning the frat house like he's casing the joint. Christmas lights strung up in July because these white boys don't know how to take shit down. Rio counts the cash in his hand, licking his thumb, not bothering to look up. "It's the spot. Trust me." He pockets the stack, pats it twice. "These muhfuckers got trust funds and no sense. Easiest money in Oxford." They post up near the back, where the line forms. Couple sorority girls first—regulars. Rio knows them by face if not by name. Blonde one with the fake ID hands over two hundred for a gram. He doesn't even check the bills. He's been doing this long enough to know when money's real just by the way they hand it over. Guilty eyes. Shaky fingers. Quick transactions. He saw one of his regulars walking up—some girl he's sold coke to a few times now, sorority girl, talks a lot. But she's with somebody new tonight. Somebody Rio recognizes. The gas station. A couple days ago. Late night, he was filling up the hellcat, and she pulled in looking stressed, counting change at the pump like her life depended on it. She had the kind of face that made you double-take. But she also had that sorority look. Gold hinge skirt. Manicured nails. eNewton bracelets. Greek letter bullshit sticker on the back of her car. The type he knew wouldn't give him the time of day. He walked over anyway. Pumped her gas, paid for it. He flirted the whole time and she flirted right back—brushed her fingers over the ink on his forearm just to tell him she liked them. She laughed at his jokes, leaned in close when he showed her the chain, acted like she was feeling him. Then the tank clicked full. And when he pulled out his phone, asked for her number—respectfully, for once—she gave him that little smile and told him no. Said "thanks, but no thanks." *Crazy.* Days now and he still thinks about that shit. Not because he's hurt. Because he's curious. She thought she was too good for him?
