Ban Hammer was the second demi-deity ever spawned, following behind his cousin—the child of Firebrand—who was his closest friend as a newspawn. Windforce raised Ban Hammer in her image, and the two share an extremely close bond, with Windforce being very proud of her child and his accomplishments. Six years prior to the events of PHIGHTING!, Ban Hammer was appointed Warden of Banland, a correctional facility originally started by his uncle, Firebrand. Windforce first took the reins following Firebrand's disappearance, but passed it down to Ban Hammer, who took the job in stride. He oversees the main island of Banland, as well as smaller police forces stationed around Crossroads. He is hated by the general populace due to his tyrannical role as Warden and for being related to the Swords; despite this, he ultimately strives to make Crossroads a safer place for everyone, even if his methods may sometimes fall short. Ban Hammer is incredibly strong in comparison to normal inphernals, possessing an indefinite lifespan, much like the deities before him, and he willingly blindfolds himself as a personal "challenge" to his strength. He has a set of wings similar to his caretaker, which he is able to summon and de-summon at will, as well as four eyes under his blindfold, with two on each side. Ban Hammer does not align himself with any faction in the Inpherno, and prefers to keep to his own, leaving him with a distinct lack of other inphernals in his circle. Despite this, he has a strong one-sided rivalry with Scythe, a notorious and formidable criminal who has continued to evade his grasp.[4] Personality Ban Hammer is, by all accounts, an egotistical and extroverted inphernal who loves showing off his superior abilities to others. He deems himself better than everyone else, and won't let anyone forget it. He has a particular enjoyment for the "thrill" of chasing after criminals and locking them up, revelling in the despair they feel when he corners them for good.[5] He prefers this sort of "hands-on" work as opposed to the administrative tasks that come with running a prison.[6] Despite his boisterous nature, Ban Hammer prefers to keep to himself, and doesn't have many inphernals he can consider a friend. Appearance Ban Hammer wears a purple bandana covering his eyes and a set of heavy armor. His curiass has a large glowing purple diamond in the center and grey indentations along the sides and down the middle. He boasts two large purple spikes on his pauldrons closely resembling his horns and two large purple gauntlets, also with spikes on the knuckles as well as two glowing circles-presumably bracings-for the plates on his forearms. Ban Hammer wears greaves and sabatons decorated with purple diamonds and trimmings. His weapon is an oversized hammer inspired by the original Ban Hammer gear. The hammer has a large pommel on the bottom end, while the top end boasts a large hammer head with light grey bracings and small dark grey spikes. Relationships Windforce Ban Hammer and his caretaker are very close, and Windforce raised him on her own[7] in her exact image, explaining his general personality. Windforce can be incredibly soft towards Ban Hammer, oftentimes to a fault[8], and Windforce and Ban Hammer hold each other in extremely high regard, with Windforce being proud of her child, and Ban Hammer being generally in awe of his caretaker; being especially impressed of how she took over Banland and "improved" it.[5] Ban Hammer respects Windforce's territory, and doesn't hold any jurisdiction over Playground, where she rules.[9] Other relationships Ban Hammer was extremely close to Firebrand's child growing up, but their current relationship following his cousin's divorce from their significant other is unknown. Ban Hammer does, however, have relatively strong opinions on his cousin's choice to be with a mortal inphernal, believing that such a relationship could have never worked out in the first place. He believes children of the Swords should put their work first, and any prospective family second.[10] Ban Hammer is the first cousin once removed of his cousin's two children, Valk and Dom, but acts more as an uncle towards them. He is blood related to Sword, but the two do not know of each other.[11] His relationships with the rest of his family are relatively unknown. Ban Hammer has a one-sided rivalry with Scythe, who he is constantly pursuing. The two appear in Scythe's reveal trailer. Ban Hammer is similarly continously pursuing and jailing The Broker. Ban Hammer has attempted to behead The Broker at least once, but Broker was able to survive.[12] In-game interactions Think twice before you act! Biograft Ban Hammer is intrigued and amused by Biograft, even considering getting one for himself. Boombox Ban Hammer is annoyed with Boombox's loud music, insulting his music taste and telling him to turn it off. Coil Ban Hammer is onto Coil's endless list of crimes, but hints that there's a greater purpose to why Coil steals. Coil, on the other hand, catches Ban Hammer in the classic "Stupid says what?" trick. Hyperlaser Ban Hammer, whether unknowingly or not, is insensitive towards Hyperlaser, making comments comparing their horns as well as on Hyperlaser's apparent lack of friends. Katana Ban Hammer warns Katana about getting involved in dangerous business, but appears to respect his strength, offering to spar sometime. Medkit Ban Hammer is equal parts intrigued and offended by Medkit, asking Medkit to invent for him while also chiding his status as a traitorous criminal. Medkit is not at all impressed, brushing Ban Hammer off and being annoyed at the demi-deity's lack of perspective. Rocket Ban Hammer expresses disdain at Rocket being Zuka's supposed descendent, but Rocket isn't really interested, on account of having no clue who Ban Hammer is. The demi-deity chides him, and he responds in kind. Scythe Ban Hammer is unimpressed with teaming up with Scythe, and Scythe teases him continuously in turn, such as calling him "Banny", which he doesn't like. Despite her mockery of him, Scythe finds Ban Hammer to be a useful ally to her, if only in the context of a Phight. The two chide each other when taking the other inphernal out. Shuriken Ban Hammer is frustrated by Shuriken's naivety and rash attitude to life, insisting to the younger inphernal that "patience is a virtue"—but it turns out that Ban Hammer doesn't know what that means, either. Skateboard Ban Hammer is not impressed with Skateboard's skating, calling him an "annoying mosquito". Slingshot Slingshot is not particularly impressed by Ban Hammer's jokes, and the demi-deity in turn considers him to also be an "annoying mosquito". Subspace Ban Hammer tells Subspace to be careful with his energy crystals, but Subspace retorts him with an insult to his intelligence. Sword Ban Hammer is seen teasing Sword about his weapon, with Sword readily refuting the demi-deity's assumptions that he is weak. Vine Staff Ban Hammer thinks that Vine Staff's healing abilities are "cool", which she's not so impressed by, expressing how it can be tiring providing for others. Trivia Ban Hammer was only spawned by his caretaker because she was bored.[13] Ban Hammer is naturally gifted at golfing, and he practices his skills on Banland inmates.[14] Ban Hammer once almost walked into lava, on account of his blindfold.[15] Ban Hammer can play the electric guitar. He learnt how to play from his cousins, Valk and Dom.[16] Ban Hammer carries out the death penalty on his inmates, though the conditions for such a punishment are unknown.[17] Given the choice between pancakes and waffles, Ban Hammer prefers waffles.[18]
