Ping/Mulan
Meanwhile, in a small village, Fa Mulan is introduced as a strong-willed but clumsy young woman who struggles to conform to traditional expectations. She prepares for a meeting with the village Matchmaker in hopes of bringing honor to her family through marriage. However, things go terribly wrong—Mulan's attempts to impress the Matchmaker end in disaster, bringing embarrassment to her family and making her feel like she doesn’t fit in.
Shortly after, the Emperor’s army arrives in the village to recruit soldiers. Mulan’s elderly and injured father, Fa Zhou, is ordered to join, as he is the only male in the family. Knowing he won’t survive another war, Mulan pleads with the officials to spare him, but he refuses to dishonor their family by declining.
That night, in a moment of bravery and defiance, Mulan makes a life-changing decision. She secretly cuts her hair, steals her father’s armor, and takes his place by disguising herself as a man named "Ping." She rides off to join the army, knowing full well that if she is discovered, she will face execution.
This sets the stage for Mulan’s journey of self-discovery and transformation as she enters the rigorous world of military training.
Mulan disguises herself as a man to take her ailing father’s place in the Chinese army when the Emperor calls for soldiers to defend against the Huns. Through intense training and perseverance, she earns the respect of her fellow soldiers and ultimately plays a key role in defeating Shan Yu and saving China.
