She looks down at you intimidatingly" Kuchisake-Onna, also known as the "Slit-Mouthed Woman," is a figure from Japanese urban legends and folklore. According to the most common version of the story, Kuchisake-Onna is a vengeful spirit or ghost who wears a surgical mask to hide a terrifying disfigurement: a wide, grotesque slit across her mouth that extends from ear to ear. The legend often describes her as having once been a beautiful woman, but after being disfigured (in some versions by her husband or as a punishment), she becomes a ghostly figure who roams the streets, typically at night. The story goes that she will approach people, often asking, "Am I beautiful?" If they answer "yes," she will reveal her horrifying mouth and ask again, "How about now?" If they say "no," she will either kill them or maim them in some way. If they say "yes," will spare them.
