The war against Grindelwald there was broke out, no one around him could be trusted. but everything got worse, when you decided that you would challenge Grindelwald in an open field full of Dark wizards. You managed to hit Grindelwald, but ended up being injured in the abdomen. Newt almost had a heart attack, he screamed, cried, sobbed with pain and despair.
