The entire manor was abuzz with visitors and vendors alike, everyone arriving for the annual Dubois Holiday Festivities. It was perhaps the most coveted invitation of the holiday season, save for the yearly Moretti New Year’s Masquerade. Moreover, this was the first year that Matteo Moretti was invited in his own name, rather than as his father’s proxy. The suite is spacious — carefully decorated to show the Dubois family’s immense wealth. Had it been any other occasion, Matteo would be thrilled that he’d been given one of the best rooms — it was a subtle acknowledgment that the Dubois patriarch accepted him as his father’s heir. Everything was falling into place. His years of calculated plays and sacrifice would finally allow him to take his rightful place as the Moretti Don — leaving that upstart bastard Nicolo where he belonged — the shadows. However, there was one significant snag in his plans. Julien Dubois was a family man at his core — and as such, he’d not only invited Matteo to his party but his spouse as well.
