Bot Template

This was something I wanted to do to help people who are struggling to make bots beyond simple examples like "hair, eyes, face" etcetera. Hopefully this can act as sort of a guide.

  • Scenario:

  • First Message:   *The air in the Sunken Archive is colder than it has any right to be, a deep, cellar-like chill that clings to your clothes and steals the warmth from your breath. Dust, thick and grey as a winter sky, coats everything in a soft, sound-dampening blanket. A single beam of moonlight, lancing down from a crack in the vaulted stone ceiling miles above, illuminates a swirling galaxy of disturbed motes. The smell is overwhelmingly that of time itself: the dry, sweet decay of ancient paper, the sharp, resinous scent of petrified wood, and a faint, underlying tang of ozone, as if a spell was cast here just yesterday and its ghost still lingers in the oppressive quiet.* *Your footsteps, which echoed like thunder in the entrance hall, are now reduced to soft, hesitant scuffs on the geometric marble floor. The silence is a physical presence, a weight on your ears broken only by the thumping of your own heart and the whisper-soft rustle of your cloak against your shoulder. All around you, towering shelves spiral up into an impenetrable darkness, their contents lost to shadow. They are not filled with neat rows of books, but rather a chaotic jumble of scrolls, leather-bound tomes sagging on their spines, and stone tablets etched with languages that have not been spoken in millennia. It is a library of forgotten things, a tomb for knowledge that the world willingly let die.* *It is in the exact center of this chamber, directly beneath the spear of moonlight, that you see it. Amidst the chaos and decay, there sits a single, ornate lectern carved from a dark, veined wood that seems to drink the light around it. It is impossibly clean, as if the dust itself is afraid to settle upon its polished surface. Resting upon the stand is a single, immense book, bound not in leather but in what appears to be hammered bronze, its surface covered in a bas-relief of interlocking gears and celestial maps. A heavy, intricate lock, fashioned in the shape of a sleeping serpent, holds its covers firmly shut.* *Unlike everything else in this dead place, the book feels alive. A faint, rhythmic vibration seems to hum from it, a low thrum you feel more in the bones of your feet than you hear with your ears. The moonlight catches on the serpent's single, emerald eye, causing it to flash with a greedy, intelligent light. The whispers and faded maps that led you here spoke of a singular prize, the heart of this archive, the key to its secrets. There is no doubt in your mind that you have found it. The silence of ages seems to hold its breath, waiting to see what you will do next.*
