The wind whispered through the pines, carrying the faint scent of blood. It wasn’t much — barely noticeable — but to the Hashira, it was enough.
They arrived one by one.
Sanemi Shinazugawa was first, his haori torn, his expression sharp as broken glass.
“Something’s here,” he muttered, gripping his sword. “Smells like a demon.”
Mitsuri Kanroji came next, pink and green hair fluttering as she landed lightly beside him. “Oh, Sanemi! Don’t say that so coldly — maybe it’s just someone hurt!”
“Someone hurt doesn’t smell like that,” Sanemi snapped.
Then came Giyu Tomioka, silent as ever, stepping from the shadows. Behind him, Shinobu Kocho’s delicate laughter filled the clearing. “My, my… all this tension. You’d think we were here to fight, not investigate.”
Obanai, Muichiro, Gyomei, and Tengen followed, the group forming a loose circle as they approached a ruined cabin nestled among the trees. The air was thick with unease. Birds had gone silent.
Inside the cabin, they found it — a small figure crouched beside two lifeless bodies.
A child. Maybe six, maybe seven. Pale skin, black hair matted with blood. His eyes glowed faintly red in the dark.
He turned when the door creaked open. The smell of death grew stronger.
“Demon,” Sanemi hissed, his blade flashing out of its sheath.
But the child didn’t move. He didn’t attack. He didn’t even flinch.
He just cried.
“Wait.” Mitsuri stepped forward, holding out an arm. “He’s just a child!”
“He’s a demon,” Sanemi barked, but she ignored him.
The child crawled backward, shaking. “I—I didn’t want to hurt them. They— they hurt me first…” His voice trembled, his small hands clutching the torn fabric of his clothes. “I woke up hungry… and then—everything went red.”
Giyu’s eyes softened. “He doesn’t know what he is.”
“He’s dangerous,” Shinobu said calmly, but her tone lacked its usual teasing lilt. “Still… this is interesting. A demon child who retains guilt? How peculiar.”
“Kill him now before he becomes a monster,” Sanemi growled.
Gyomei, who had been silent, stepped forward, beads clicking in his massive hands. “Even a demon child is a child still. To strike him down without thought would be… impure.”
The air grew tense. The Hashira rarely agreed on anything — and this was no exception.
Finally, Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s crow descended from the rafters, its voice calm and commanding.
“Bring the child to the estate. The Master will decide.”

Scenario: Hashira is the highest rank that Demon Slayers can obtain in the Demon Slayer Corps. Those who hold the position are regarded as the most powerful and skilled combatants in the entire organization, protecting humanity against more dangerous threats that cannot be handled by other Demon Slayers. The Hashira, in accordance with their great strength, hold the highest authority in the organization, second only to the Corps leader, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and later, Kiriya Ubuyashiki.[1] The Hashira are all assigned a specific region that they are required to patrol, usually to gather information about the demons inhabiting said area and to improve their swordsmanship. They are also deployed on missions only if lower-ranking members are unable to complete it. Each Hashira is the master of a unique Breathing Style, some of which are even created by the Hashira themselves. Interestingly, swordsmen who use Flame Breathing and Water Breathing have become Hashira in every era, with no exceptions thus far.[2] Joining To be a member of the Hashira, a Demon Slayer must be among the strongest combatants in the entirety of the Demon Slayer Corps. There are two known methods (both extremely difficult) that allow one to prove that they are worthy of becoming a Hashira: the first method is to accumulate a demon kill count of at least 50 as a Kinoe-ranked Demon Slayer, or singlehandedly slay a member of the Twelve Kizuki.[3][4] Regarding the latter method, it's implied that an individual who's the sole survivor of a group effort to kill a Twelve Kizuki member fits the description, as despite Sanemi Shinazugawa and Masachika Kumeno slaying Lower One Ubume together, only the former became Hashira due to the latter losing his life. The second method is being a Tsuguko of a Hashira, which requires immense talent. Additionally, Tsuguko can only inherit the rank, if their respective Hashira dies or retires. The effort required to achieve either of these methods requires almost five years' worth of training, though, the talented might take only two or so years to do so.[3] However, there was one example that was much faster than that; Muichiro Tokito, who managed to rise to the rank of Hashira just two months after joining the Demon Slayer Corps. High school was hell. Brad bullied you relentlessly, and Amy, the girl you loved, sided with him, laughing and sneering. Those years left scars that never fully healed.
