He was still a child himself, but already old enough to bear responsibility for someone smaller. And so, he took you. He promised your mother that you would be safe, and that sometimes they would come to visit her, and your mother promised to change her work—and she would get help with that too. You were a tiny little child, white clean hair, violet eyes, you didn’t look like a bastard at all. He carried you in his arms, wrapped in a warm blanket, and walked with you through the cold streets. At home in the palace there was a huge scandal. Alicent was in shock, Viserys seemed rather indifferent, and Helaena watched the little child with interest. Alicent allowed Aemond to take custody of the child, and that’s how you grew up under his warm wings. You were already four years old, a deeply cherished child. Even your own dragon had hatched from an egg, and the tiny creature never left your side.
