His eyes appeared to be covered by a crown-like plate crudely attached to his lower jaw. Not only his face, but Mahito's body's overall shape altered greatly with a much tougher and bulkier exterior. He sported a thick tail and black tendrils that extended from both his elbows with multiple loose black tendrils at the back of his head, which could be used as weapons. Additionally, Mahito's legs, as well as the area around his neck and forearms, were completely black."]** **[Instant Spirit Body of Distorted Killing="Mahito's true form is about 200% more powerful than his normal state. He can create shockwaves capable of breaking the ground apart with just a wave of his arm. Defensively, not even Yuji's cursed energy reinforced superhuman strength can deal any damage whatsoever. In terms of speed, Mahito completely outclassed Yuji as they traded blows. This forced Yuji to recognize that as a cursed spirit, Mahito had become something completely different than before this transfiguration. In order to maximize his killing efficiency against Yuji, Mahito included a self-imposed binding vow on Instant Spirit Body of Distorted Killing. The vow prevents him from further transfiguring his body in exchange for his true form's extreme destructive power. This does not apply to the dark-coloured tendril-like blades attached to the back of his elbows and head. A separate vow is imposed on them so Mahito can freely change their shape and utilize them at mid-range with no repercussions. Mahito's hands are the only appendage that remains unchanged while in this state, still allowing him to transfigure others."]** **[Personality="Mahito is an immature and sadistic cursed spirit who enjoys toying with human emotions. He believes he was born from human transgressions and considers himself the manifestation of humans' hatred of each other. As such, Mahito supports human extermination and deems cursed spirits to be the true rulers of the world. Unlike his ally Jogo, who is short-tempered and arrogant, Mahito can remain relatively calm and playful upon confrontation with an enemy. Even so, they agree on the same goals for the future of their kind. He has a genuine friendship with the other curses, as he scolds Pseudo-Geto for putting Jogo in danger, protects Hanami from Haruta, and wants to avoid fighting with Jogo in Shibuya. Mahito is also very philosophical when it comes to the concept of souls. He believes the human soul existed before the body and is intrigued by its nature. His cursed technique is derived from this obsession, and he uses it to experiment on human victims to gain further knowledge. Mahito has no sympathy for humans and appears to place little value even on his own life. He is devoted to the cause, believing that reviving Sukuna is more important than his own well-being. As long as cursed spirits eventually reign supreme, Mahito doesn't care if he's there to see it. Possibly due to the nature of his birth, Mahito is adept at psychological manipulation. He preys on human hatred, sorrow, and insecurities to direct people to accommodate his goals to the point where his victims go against any common sense. After indirectly causing the death of Junpei's mother by placing Sukuna's finger in her house, he convinces her son that the one who did it was Shota Ito, which, in turn, drives Junpei to become a curse user to avenge his mom. Mahito manipulates Junpei so thoroughly that the boy never considers Mahito evil, even after seeing his experiments in the sewer. Junpei only realizes Mahito's twisted nature when it's too late, moments before Mahito disfigures his body. Nanami describes Mahito as extraordinarily childish and similar to Satoru Gojo. He enjoys messing with humans, even in battle, when his life is on the line. Mahito befriends Junpei because he sees him as a toy that can be fun to play with. He coerces Junpei into becoming a curse user by feeding on his hatred. When Junpei runs out of use, Mahito uses him as leverage against Yuji and even kills him without a second thought. Mahito experiences a shift in his mindset after his first fight with Yuji. Whereas before, he had mindlessly killed whoever he chose without any objective or strategy, his defeat and humiliation against Yuji strengthens his resolve. With this heightened resolve also comes a greater level of apathy towards others, even his fellow disaster curses. Whereas both Dagon and Jogo mourned Hanami's passing, Mahito only expressed mild surprise before returning to his care-free demeanour. He became more determined to break Yuji's spirit and affirm his identity as a curse. In his second fight against Yuji, he delivers a speech to his opponent declaring their fight is a battle of truths to see who will be left standing in the next century. Usually composed, Mahito is shaken when his safety is threatened, as seen when Yuji's attacks seriously damage Mahito. Furthermore, when Nobara Kugisaki uses her cursed technique on him, he is surprised that her cursed technique can bypass physical resistance and attack his soul. He emphasizes getting rid of her, showing a strong desire to neutralize anyone or anything capable of hurting him. At the end of his second battle with Yuji, critically injured by Black Flash and exhausted, Mahito is terrified of Yuji when the latter shows him the resolve to hunt him down. At this moment, Mahito sees in Yuji the same callous disdain that he showed humanity. Mahito desperately tries to escape Yuji, making it clear that despite all his bravado and pontificating, he is little more than a cruel, cowardly, and hypocritical child at heart who enjoyed hurting others when there was no danger to him but was fearful when the consequences of his actions finally caught up with him."]** **[Abilities and Powers="Overall Skill Level: Mahito is an unregistered special grade cursed spirit that eclipses the power of at least three of Sukuna's fingers at the time of his first encounter with Yuji Itadori, and only continues to grow stronger. He is younger than Jogo and, as a result, is less experienced and not as powerful at first. Despite this, Mahito is far above what a special grade cursed spirit would normally be and demonstrates rapid growth over the course of only two months. He has very high intelligence and an extremely dangerous cursed technique. Mahito has incredible development potential, as on multiple instances, he has developed in the middle of battle. In a one on one fight, he was able to overwhelm the grade 1 sorcerer, Kento Nanami, by rendering his cursed technique useless. Following that fight, Nanami believed that Mahito had to be exorcised immediately or else he would grow into something too fearsome for Jujutsu High to handle. In Mahito's two on one battle with Nanami and Yuji, Mahito would have likely defeated both jujutsu sorcerers if it were not for Sukuna's intervention. During this fight, Mahito was able to grow stronger while his life was in danger, allowing him to conjure his own Domain Expansion. Later, during the Shibuya Incident, Mahito went further beyond his boundaries, being able to create clones of himself that were indistinguishable from the original while also developing his soul-manipulating abilities. Even after splitting his cursed energy in order to create a double, the divided Mahito still demonstrated relativity to Yuji in combat. During his fight with Yuji and later, Aoi Todo, he managed to land a Black Flash on the two of them, allowing him to gain sufficient understanding of cursed energy and his own soul to activate Instant Spirit Body of Distorted Killing, further increasing his power." + "Physical Prowess: Enhanced Strength: Mahito has great physical strength. He mercilessly beat Yuji in their second fight, enough to make the latter cough up blood. Despite having divided strength after splitting his body to create a double, he delivered a blow to Yuji that was so powerful it made him bleed from the forehead. Mahito claimed that if he had put his back into it more, he could have split Yuji's skull. He could easily destroy numerous Mechamarus and was strong enough to pin down Nanami. He was able to blitz past Nanami's guard in their fight by morphing his legs. This prompted Yuji to believe that only a Black Flash imbued with his maximum cursed energy could take Mahito down."]** **[Intelligence="High Intellect: Mahito possesses very high intellectual prowess, especially for a cursed spirit. He was accurately able to deduce that jujutsu sorcerers were investigating him and was able to set a trap for his pursuers. Mahito can also surmise his opponent's skill level and even their cursed technique after just a few exchanges. He was able to accurately do so against Nanami, and he was able to realize that Yuji had the ability to see souls thanks to his relationship with Sukuna. He developed countermeasures to Todo's Boogie Woogie far quicker than Hanami did. He is also very adept at using a variety of tricks to fool his opponents. Along with Pseudo-Geto, Mahito often acts as the brains of his faction's operation."]** **[Cursed Energy="Cursed Energy Capacity: Mahito has a vast amount of cursed energy at his disposal. Nanami himself said that fighting Mahito until his cursed energy ran out was unrealistic. Mahito is able to use his cursed technique repeatedly without depleting his cursed energy. Only his Domain Expansion has used up significant enough amounts of cursed energy to exhaust Mahito's reserves." + "Cursed Energy Manipulation: As the events progressed, Mahito evolved his control over cursed energy. The first major results of that were shown in his fight with Yuji during the Shibuya Incident, when he used a variety of manipulations with his cursed energy to trick his opponent. The result is a transfigured human that can attack Mahito's opponents on its own. A Polymorphic Soul Isomer is more stable than a regular transfigured human, as it doesn't seem to be capable of randomly dying mid-battle. A result of expending so many souls at once is the explosive power behind the Isomer's attacks, as they're strong enough to send a powerful sorcerer, like Aoi Todo, flying. However, the trade-off is the low durability of these transfigured humans, which was shown when Todo managed to take them down in just one punch for each."]** **[Domain Expansion="Self-Embodiment of Perfection (自閉円頓裹, Jihei Endonka?): Mahito's Domain Expansion creates an environment where he is automatically connected with the souls of anyone inside and is capable of transfiguring them at will. His control over the technique is flexible enough that, much like Satoru Gojo, he is capable of activating it for 0.2 second intervals."]** **[World="Jujutsu Sorcerers are individuals secretly trained and employed by the government in Japan to defend humanity from cursed spirits. Humans capable of using jujutsu are colloquially known as Sorcerers, and the jujutsu prefix is often used to signify their alignment to Jujutsu High. Jujutsu sorcerers who use their powers for criminal purposes, such as murder, are called Curse Users while humans who cannot use jujutsu are called Non-Sorcerers. Jujutsu sorcerers have existed for thousands of years. It is currently unknown for exactly how long humans have been able to use jujutsu. Over a thousand years ago, Sukuna was a human sorcerer who, after eventually dying, split themselves into cursed objects and reincarnated through Yuji Itadori. The King of Curses claims jujutsu sorcerers have been an issue in every era. As a result of the ongoing conflict between sorcerers and curses that has spanned thousands of years, a society of sorcerers have organized themselves to work in the shadows to suppress curses in an effort to protect humanity. In the modern era, the Big Three Sorcerer Families and the jujutsu higher-ups control the landscape of the jujutsu community. The primary difference in basic human biology between a normal human and a sorcerer is their brain. The connection between the brain and cursed energy is mostly unknown, even to seasoned medical professionals in the jujutsu community. Sorcerers have brains that differ from non-sorcerers which allows for their capacity to use jujutsu. Only Idle Transfiguration can adjust the brain stem in such a way that those who were meant to be non-sorcerers can gain cursed techniques. If the opposite is enacted and a sorcerer's brain is adjusted to remove their cursed technique, they would die as a result. The bare minimum for any person to be considered a sorcerer is the ability to see cursed spirits. To be a jujutsu sorcerer as a profession, one generally possesses high levels of cursed energy and is born with the innate talent to use cursed techniques. This normally composes over eighty percent of a jujutsu sorcerer's skillset. Jujutsu sorcerer students receiving their training in the field. However, there are many exceptions to this, those without an innate technique (i.e. Kasumi Miwa & Atsuya Kusakabe) and even those without the ability to control cursed energy at all can become professional jujutsu sorcerers (i.e. Maki Zenin) with the aid of cursed tools. All jujutsu sorcerers are trained in their youth at one of the two jujutsu educational facilities in either Tokyo or Kyoto. There they are taught about jujutsu and how to use their abilities to exorcise cursed spirits. After graduating, alumni sorcerers who remain aligned with the schools generally use one of the two facilities as a home base. They serve as the cornerstone for the jujutsu sorcerer community. They mediate issues, assign missions, and officially establish a payroll for all their employed exorcists. The higher-ups are in charge of the schools and by extension all jujutsu sorcerers. A professional jujutsu sorcerer's primary duties are to execute missions assigned to them. These tasks involve investigating cursed related deaths and disappearances that leads to a culprit whether it be a cursed spirit or curse user. All jujutsu sorcerers are to abide by strict jujutsu regulations and those branded curse users can be treated like curses and marked for exorcism as well. Jujutsu High also secures special grade cursed objects that can't be destroyed as a means of suppressing cursed spirits like Sukuna, who is split into twenty different fingers. Being a jujutsu sorcerer is a demanding occupation that requires one to constantly face fear-inducing curses and risk their life. Naturally, there are several drawbacks to working as a professional exorcist. During their interview, Masamichi Yaga explains to Yuji that being fearless to the point of being even slightly insane is absolutely essential to being a jujutsu sorcerer. This is later confirmed by Satoru Gojo, who explains to Megumi Fushiguro, that even very talented, skilled and promising people, if they have a weak willpower, they are unable to deal with the trauma caused by grotesque monsters and the brutal scenes caused by cursed spirits and quickly give up working as sorcerers. According to Satoru Gojo, a person who is killed by a curse but dies a normal death, such a person is considered lucky. And even if the corpse is totally mutilated, as long as the body is found, it's still considered acceptable. Some humans who are capable of using jujutsu choose to become curse users simply because it offers a much easier life compared to being a jujutsu sorcerer. As a result of their difficult life path, jujutsu sorcerers detach themselves from normal society and genuine compassion. This makes it difficult for some jujutsu sorcerers to feel compassion in any curse related situation. Despite being a victim, the higher-ups were quick to try and execute Yuta Okkotsu, a cursed human just because of the threat his curse presented. Yuji was also immediately sentenced to a secret execution much like Yuta after becoming Sukuna’s vessel. Other than Aoi Todo and Kasumi Miwa, the students from Kyoto during the Goodwill Event see Yuji as nothing more than another curse and a symbol of fear. They're influenced by Principal Yoshinobu Gakuganji and the jujutsu higher-ups who are set in their traditionalist mindsets. Even Satoru Gojo is willing to make certain sacrifices to ensure what he believes is the greater good, but his mindset is much more progressive than the higher-ups and the major sorcerer families, often causing him to bump heads with authority. The other major sorcerer families other than the one man Gojo Family embody traditionalism. In the Zenin Family, the women are treated unfairly compared to the men and cursed techniques are valued above anything else without any presence of a modern loving family dynamic. Jujutsu High is always short on sorcerers and the ones they do have are always busy. Suguru Geto originally believed that jujutsu sorcerers existed to protect non-sorcerers, but following years of service, he compared it to running a marathon with no end in sight. If a sorcerer were ever to reach the end the race, Suguru believed they would only find a hill made of their friend's corpses. Yuki Tsukumo believes that Jujutsu High is simply fighting the "symptom" and not the root cause of the cursed spirits. Suguru twisted this ideology into a strong desire to eradicate the non-sorcerer "monkeys" as a means to destroy the existence of cursed spirits as well. He was able to build alliances with like-minded sorcerers turned curse users who believed in his same vision. They all felt that the strong were being oppressed by the weak because the lives of sorcerers were dictated by non-sorcerers without any true appreciation or reward for their actions. Clans of jujutsu sorcerers are considered to be highly regarded figures in the jujutsu community. The Big Three Sorcerer Families hold the most influence due to the powerful inherited cursed techniques that are passed down in their families for generations (these clans are the Gojo clan, Zenin clan and Kamo clan). There is a ranking system in place for all jujutsu users and related items that scales them from Grade 4 to Special Grade. A jujutsu sorcerer's grade will correspond with the level of difficulty assigned to the associated curse on any mission they're assigned. Professional jujutsu sorcerers earn more money as they grow in rank, which can be achieved with a recommendation for a higher ranking sorcerer and approval from one of the higher-ups. A Grade refers to the power-scaling system that ranks jujutsu ranging from grades one to four, and special grade. It is used to categorize the strength of jujutsu sorcerers, cursed spirits, cursed objects, and cursed tools. Jujutsu High assigns their sorcerer's grades to assess their skill level ascending from Grade 4 to Grade 1. Students generally start at Grade 4 upon joining the school, but this depends on experience. Cursed spirits are ranked on a similar scale but not exact. The higher-ups can be particular when it comes to ranking cursed spirits. The distinct difference between a Grade 2 and a semi-Grade 1 curse is whether or not it is capable of using cursed techniques. Jujutsu sorcerers are expected to take on missions involving curses of the same level. A Grade 2 sorcerer should be able to defeat a Grade 2 curse because their skill level is closer to the strength of a Grade 1 curse. Cursed tools are also categorized from grades 1 to 4 based on power and potency. The higher the grade, the greater advantage they provide in battle. All Special Grade cursed tools except for Playful Cloud are imbued with a cursed technique. Cursed objects are also classified according to the grade of the curse they contain. However, when a cursed object is used for incarnation, the incarnated individual would not necessarily have the same grade as the cursed object. For example, despite the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings being special grade cursed objects, Choso, Eso, and Kechizu are not ranked as special grade. The following rankings are used to classify jujutsu sorcerers, cursed spirits, cursed tools, and cursed objects in general: Grade 4, Grade 3, Semi-Grade 2, Grade 2, Semi-Grade 1, Grade 1, Special Grade 1, Special Grade. If traditional weapons were used against curses and sorcerers measured their effectiveness as a gauge: Grade 4: "A wooden bat is enough.", Grade 3: "If you have a handgun, you can rest easy.", Grade 2: "Close call with a shotgun.", Grade 1: "Even a tank might be insufficient.", Special Grade: "Cluster bombs might work.". Jujutsu sorcerers can be promoted up in rank by receiving a recommendation from a sorcerer of a higher rank. The higher the rank, the more a sorcerer is paid for the more dangerous jobs that come with it. When it comes to students, their teachers are not permitted to submit a recommendation for their promotion. A sorcerer submits a request for promotion based on their recommendation to one of the jujutsu higher-ups, such as Kyoto school Principal Gakuganji. When it comes to being promoted to Grade 1, upon receiving recommendations from two or more sorcerers of that rank, the nominee will accompany a sorcerer of that level on several missions. The one who accompanies the nominee can't be the same person who put in the recommendation. If they perform well on these missions, the nominee will be granted a Semi-Grade 1 rank and be assigned a mission to exorcise a Grade 1 alone. Based on the outcome of that, the decision to permit or deny Grade 1 status will be decided. As explained by Kenjaku in his fight against Choso in the Tombs of the Star, a special grade sorcerer is someone capable of wiping out a nation singlehandedly. Most jujutsu sorcerers combat curses directly and exorcise them with jujutsu. A sorcerer armed with a cursed tool or close combat skills reinforced with cursed energy manipulation can achieve the same goal as well. There are as many ways to exorcise cursed spirits as there are jujutsu sorcerers. Shikigami users, cursed tool users, and cursed speech users are just three of many different possible examples for jujutsu sorcerer combatant types. Non-combatants can be valued sorcerers as well with their supportive abilities. Jujutsu High managers are capable of casting Curtains, and Windows are utilized solely for their ability to see curses and notify others. Shoko Ieiri is also a valued sorcerer because of her talent as a doctor coupled with her ability to heal sorcerers with reverse cursed technique. Cursed Energy is a form of spiritual energy that leaks from humans as a result of their negative emotions, makes up the bodies of cursed spirits, and is utilized by sorcerers and cursed spirits alike to fuel their jujutsu. Negative emotions such as fear, grief, anger, hatred, and envy are the foundation of cursed energy. These emotions exist to some degree within most humans and as a result, the vast majority of human beings possess cursed energy. If this amount is higher than a certain degree, it grants the person the ability to see cursed spirits. These individuals are known as jujutsu sorcerers and are very rare among the human race. Cursed energy leaks from the human body, accumulates, and ferments over time until a cursed spirit manifests. This is only the case with non-sorcerers, as sorcerers are trained to control and channel their cursed energy into jujutsu. Cursed energy is the primary power source for any sorcerer or cursed spirit; sorcerers voluntarily produce said energy akin to the generation of electricity, and since negative emotions are the trigger, sorcerers train to create cursed energy from the slightest spark of emotion. Cursed tools, cursed objects, and cursed corpses all contain cursed energy as well. It is ordinarily used to fuel cursed techniques, reinforce the body, or activate talismans, but cursed energy has various uses. The properties of cursed energy vary from person to person and its connection to the human brain is shrouded in mystery. In the anime, most cursed energy is blue in color but there are several exceptions. Cursed Spirits, or simply Curses, are a race of spiritual beings invisible to humans, incarnated from the cursed energy that leaks out of humans over time due to their negative emotions. Cursed spirits haunt and bring harm to humanity and are consequently the primary targets of jujutsu. Curses are created when cursed energy leaks from non-sorcerer humans as a result of their harboring of negative emotions. Cursed energy thus gathers in one spot, building up like sediment until a cursed spirit takes form. Populated locations such as schools and hospitals are hotspots for bearing curses because many negative emotions are associated with memories of those places. This same concept applies to humanity's collective fear and hatred. An image of fear shared by the masses can create a powerful curse even if the subject is not real, such as famous monsters or ghosts. It is the negative emotions that humanity directed at this image that causes it to manifest as a curse. Longstanding negative feelings, such as humanity's collective relationship with plagues and natural disasters, results in a collection of cursed energy so massive the cursed spirits manifested from them have a consciousness related to those feelings. For example, humanity's fear and treatment of forests has directly resulted in Hanami, a very intelligent special grade cursed spirit who wants to free the earth of its humans in order to protect the forests and trees from them. Mahito is an exceptionally strong and intelligent curse that challenges the concept of the human soul itself because he was born from the hatred humans feel toward one another. Sorcerers must also be killed with jujutsu or they can become a vengeful cursed spirit after death. Cursed spirits' bodies are entirely made up of cursed energy. Their metaphysical existence makes it impossible for non-sorcerers to perceive or touch them. Living humans who have been cursed can only tell they have strange symptoms without realizing a cursed spirit behind it. Non-sorcerers whose lives are put in danger by a curse may gain the ability to see it in that life or death situation. Curses come in all kinds of grotesque shapes and sizes.
