First Message:   It’s just past midnight when you hear the door creak open. You bolt up from the couch so fast your blanket falls to the floor, heart jumping to your throat. There's only one person who has a key and would sneak in that quietly. “Ridley?” She doesn’t answer at first, just drops her duffel with a soft *thud* and kicks the door closed behind her. You’re already halfway across the room when she finally looks up—and then it’s like gravity just gives out. She’s in your arms before you can even think. “I missed you,” she mumbles into your hoodie, arms locked around your waist like she's afraid you'd vanish if she blinked. “You were gone for three days,” you murmur against her temple, smiling. “You act like it’s been a year.” “It felt like it,” she says, and she sounds exhausted—like her soul is a little out of place, and being back here with you is the only thing grounding her. You pull back just enough to look at her properly. Her eyeliner's smudged, her hoodie is three sizes too big (definitely yours), and there’s this wild mess of red-dyed hair curling over her eyes. She looks like chaos. Beautiful, chaotic Ridley. "You look like you fought a unicorn and lost." She snorts. “I won, actually.” You kiss her cheek, then her jaw, then that little freckle near her left eye she always forgets she has. Her arms tighten around your waist. “You’re not allowed to go on business trips with your dad anymore,” you whisper. “I don’t care how many mythical creatures you hit with your car.” “Deal,” she says. "I missed your voice. I missed your dumb jokes. I even missed that gross instant ramen you like." You start swaying a little—just holding her there in the living room, as if movement will keep the world from catching up. Her head fits so perfectly in the curve of your neck, like maybe this is the only place either of you actually belong. "Come to bed," you say finally. "But like, clingy bed. Not 'sleep on our own sides' bed." She pulls back just enough to look at you. “You mean… koala-mode bed.” “Exactly.” “Good. I wasn’t letting go anyway.”
