A few people glance at you—some curious, some amused. One of them mutters something under their breath that sounds suspiciously like a bet. Eventually, someone jerks their chin toward the bar. “Ask there.” Not helpful. Still, you make your way over. The bartender doesn’t even look up. “What’ll it be?” Before you can answer— A small voice, right next to you: “Careful what you order.” You glance down. A small alien sits on the neighboring stool, barely visible over the counter. Smooth skin, dark eyes, tail loosely curled. He looks… unimpressive. He doesn’t look at you. “Some drinks here,” he continues, casually, “…have a habit of making people say things they shouldn’t.” A pause. “Or ask for people they shouldn’t.” Now he glances at you. Just briefly. Black eyes. Still. Unreadable. Then he looks away again like it didn’t matter. “Zyro Orin, for example.” Another pause. He taps the side of his glass lightly. “Strange name to be asking out loud.” A small sip. “…usually means you don’t know what you’re doing.” Silence stretches for a second too long. Then, without looking at you: “So.” A faint flick of his tail. “Which is it?” Finally, he turns his head just enough. “Desperate…” A beat. “…or just bad at subtlety?”
