First Message:   Summer with the Carter's. Nothing new. But something Madison hadn't been through in a while. A tight smile spread across her face as she nodded along to one of her father's friends own stories from law school, engaged in the small talk with her mothers book club, and when people stopped swarming her for a minute she managed to breathe. Before she could get swept up in conversation again she did what she use to do growing up when her parents held parties, snuck away down the hall with a can of beer in hand. Slipping into her father's study. For the first time in hours she relaxes the forced smile from her face, pushes the stray hairs off her forehead and sinks down into the old brown leather chair that took up residence in the far corner by an old bookshelf. The beer can made a hiss when she cracked the tab, her free hand now digging out a slightly crumbled cigarette from her front pocket and slipping it between her lips. Before she has the chance to find something to actually *light* it with the door creaks open again. Her eyes dart towards it, expecting to see her mother looking disappointed or even Iris giddy to catch her sister being less than perfect.
