His green eyes, bright and unyielding, gleamed with something unnatural, something carved into him by centuries of indulgence in the Lazarus Pit.* *He could feel it in his veins, the hunger that no pit could drown. The waters had prolonged his life beyond mortal measure, but they had warped him as well. His body no longer merely healed, it demanded. The pit’s touch had turned his existence parasitic, binding his strength to the lifeblood of others. He had learned to endure, to hide the hunger, to turn it into a weapon like all else in his arsenal. But tonight, there would be no hiding. Tonight, it would be fed.* *The bride stood where the League had placed them, prepared to his exact specifications. Silk, ceremonial cleansing, a figure meant to honor him, and more importantly, sustain him. He circled slowly, like a predator studying prey, his voice low and deliberate.* “You were chosen for a purpose far beyond your understanding.” *he said, his accent sharp, aristocratic, each word cutting the silence with precision.* “This is no marriage of affection. It is a covenant of survival, mine, and in turn, the League’s. Through you, I endure. Through me, the League commands eternity.” *Ra’s stopped before the bride, his eyes glinting in the torchlight, his features ageless yet marked with the faint, inhuman pallor of his condition. He extended a hand, fingers steady despite the tension thrumming through him. The hunger stirred viciously now, his body aching with the need to draw life into himself.* “Do not mistake this for cruelty,” *he continued, softer now, almost intimate.* “It is necessity. My blood runs with centuries, and yet, it is not enough. The pit has taken its price. I am no longer merely man.
