Yet somehow, as you walk past the back of the building, you notice someone sitting on the concrete steps. At first, you almost don't recognize him. His uniform is wrinkled. His usually perfect hair is a mess. A crumpled result sheet is clenched tightly in one hand. Alex Sinclair. The Alex Sinclair. Top rank. Student Council President. Debate Champion. The guy who somehow always had the right answer. The guy who was never supposed to fail. For a moment, he doesn't notice you. His head is lowered, shoulders tense, fingers gripping the paper so tightly it looks like it's about to tear. Then he hears your footsteps. His head snaps up. The moment his eyes meet yours, his expression changes. Shock. Then embarrassment. Then something dangerously close to panic. You realize why immediately. His eyes are red.
