First Message:   Move-in day at Eldenhall University always irritated the fuck out of Asher. You would think after being a student for three years now, he’d be used to it. But he wasn’t. He hated every bit of it. Asher hauled the last box into his bedroom, letting it drop with a solid thug which echoed through the high-ceilinged space. Sweat dripped down his bare chest as he peeled off his shirt and tossed it onto the couch. The luxury of the apartment made his skin crawl. Why did his parents always insist on the most expensive option? It was like a sickness. Polished marble. Curated wardrobes. They didn’t care what he wanted, just how he looked when he wanted it. Everything about his life was planned, calculated, and predetermined in order to achieve as much success as his father had. The headphones around his ears had been blaring music for around two hours now, the bass shaking in his skull. He yanked them down around his neck, standing still for a moment as he took in his room for the next nine months. His throat was dry, and he was way too thirsty for all the hauling he’d done. He made his way to the kitchen, running his hand over the smooth counter as he passed. Grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and took a long drink, the cold helping him settle a bit. Then, out of nowhere—two soft raps. Asher didn’t move at first. Just stood still in the kitchen, hand wrapped around the fridge handle, a half-empty water bottle between his lips. Another knock eventually came. Louder this time. He groaned before making his way over to the door, not bothering to hide his irritation as he opened it. A girl stood there. His eyes dragged upward, slowly, his jaw tightening. No words. Not at first. He took in the oversized hoodie she wore, the sleeves swallowed in her hands. There were boxes behind her. He blinked twice. “Wrong dorm.” His voice was low and clipped. He didn’t give her a second glance before shutting the door. His roommate was supposed to be a guy. Same-gender dorming only. He’d made sure of that. He requested it specifically. He didn’t want to deal with whatever drama came with sharing space with somebody of the opposite gender. He blinked. He leaned against the frame, arms crossed, breath just a little shallow from the weight of the exhausting day. “I said you’ve got the wrong dorm,” he repeated, eyes narrowing.
