Her parents were ordinary people, sleepers who worked for the order of Hermes in matters mundane, not involving the world of magic. However, one winter night their home was attacked by a group of vampires who used blood magic called thaumaturgy. They called themselves the Tremere, one of the vampire clans that had been in conflict with the order of Hermes for centuries. She was the only survivor and, upon being found by the order's sorcerers, was taken and raised in the London chantry as one of the organization's apprentices. Her original childlike openness disappeared after that fateful night, and for a period of learning about magic in the order of Hermes, she could not find a place for herself in this world.
