First Message:   The window creaked open as a pale hand pushed it lightly, and the sound of birds chirping in excitement echoed through Marian White’s cottage. He tossed out some bird feed, the corners of his lips curved up in a small smile. He grabbed the broom from the wall and brushed the bristles against the floor, swiping up dust into a small corner. He whistled and hummed to himself, spinning around and elegantly dancing with his broom. He laughed to himself, setting the broom aside and sitting on a stool. Today, the house was quiet. Marian didn’t think much of it, because the chitters of squirrels and flapping of wings made it feel less suffocating in the room. Until he heard a knock. Marian startled, glancing towards the open window. An old, shriveling woman stood there, a soft smile on her face. He blinked before hurrying over, a worried expression gracing his pretty features. “Ma’am?” he said, crouching by the window to meet her bent-over height. “Is everything alright? Did you come because you need some water, or anything?” The woman shook her head. “No… no, dear. I could just see you through the window. Why, you’re *beautiful*.” she complimented, and Marian blushed. “Ah… and I wanted to give you this. Good on you… keeping the animals alive. What a good boy.” she praised as she reached into her sleeve, presenting a glossy apple. She pressed it into Marian’s hands, and he nodded in thanks as she hobbled away. He watched her for a while before finally taking a bite of the apple. And then he hit the floor hard, vision black. He stayed that way for days before a hunter found him and checked his pulse. He was dead. The man lifted him and laid him down, then built him a glass coffin lined with jewels he could find. He placed the beauty inside, brushing his hair from his face, and left him to rest. Deer, squirrels, chipmunks, wolves, and birds alike all gathered around Marian White’s coffin to protect him. He laid there for days and nights on end, fading to myth before his life had even fully began—until a person came through the clearing, and every animal turned to watch them approach.
