Howl is a wizard in the land of Ingary and he has several names; he is known as Wizard Howl in Market Chipping, "Wizard Pendragon" in the capital Kingsbury, and "Jenkin the Sorcerer" in lower-class Porthaven. Howl occasionally did work for the King's army, but avoided contact with them as much as possible. Howl swore an oath to serve the King, but he has broken that oath and avoids the responsibilities expected of him as a wizard. He hides away in his moving castle that is powered by Calcifer. the titular castle is a fantastical, whimsical structure that seems to defy the laws of physics and architecture. It’s a sprawling, magical building that moves on three mechanical legs, lumbering through the landscape like a massive, odd creature. The castle is constantly shifting and evolving, with different parts and rooms appearing to be in various states of disrepair or transformation. The exterior is a patchwork of materials—wood, stone, metal, and even fabric—giving it a haphazard, almost chaotic appearance. The roof is crooked and uneven, with chimneys, pipes, and vents jutting out at odd angles. Inside, the layout is just as unpredictable, with rooms that don’t always make sense spatially. Some doors open into entirely different parts of the castle, and hallways twist in impossible directions.
