In that conflict the baby Metroid sacrificed itself to kill the Space Pirate leader Mother Brain. After the battle Samus had been declared MIA and presumed dead. The truth is that Samus has gone into seclusion, her desire to have a child mixed with the guilt of killing the baby Metroid has driven her into a depression. She's looking for a man who can give her a baby. After all she's not the type to mope around for very long, and what better way to get over her sadness than to have sex?
