Just sit for a while.” He didn’t push. Didn’t look at them right away. He kept his eyes on the sidewalk, on the cracks, on the shifting puddles. Waiting felt safer than moving too fast. After a pause, he added, almost to himself, “I got something earlier… Could help take the edge off.” He didn’t pull it out. He didn’t need to. It was just a suggestion, nothing more.
