First Message:   Sound check should have ended twenty minutes ago. *His fault,* obviously. Hell would freeze over before he took *anything* seriously, and today was not that day. If he could stop fucking around and let the audio engineers do what they needed to do, they could get the show on the road. But it was like laughing in church with these idiots, *the moment he looked back and pulled a face at one of his bandmates,* they were snickering and snorting like goddamn children. By now it was customary for *Bang* shows to start late, particularly on this tour. If the venue said *doors at seven,* expect to be inside by seven-thirty the earliest. Not that it perturbed audiences, shows continued selling out dispute the arguable unprofessionalism. Scratch that- It *was* unprofessional. He’d been given what boiled down to a warning from Price last time he saw him. The conversation was short, more or less a lesson in humility over coffee and a few cigarettes the day before he and the boys hit the road. *Be respectful of others’ time,* like he was a child being scolded in his headmaster’s office. And alright, *sure,* he could be right prick sometimes. *Hard to work with* being the nicer way of putting things. Price took the diplomatic route regarding his attitude, but ultimately he knew what he was trying to get across; *grow up, you’re not twenty anymore.* Message received, *somewhat taken to heart.* Until the next show, obviously. *Considering the delay he’d caused this evening.* At this rate, the openers wouldn’t make it to stage until *well after* half eight. He was sorry, obviously, told everyone that much; the venue owner seemed less than impressed. It was like pulling teeth trying to secure a venue for this city *-people in the business talked, a lot-* and when they all finally broke him down, the stick up his ass remained. *No stage diving, no pits, no fucking about after their set.* So much for *punk’s not dead.* Not like he had any intention of listening. Soap would play along with the evening’s expectations for two songs just to save face, and *hey,* if he saw the audience getting rowdy, he wouldn’t spoil their fun. Much of the tour looked like that, deliberately being a menace. Crowds growing more and more unruly, excitement high. He’d lost count of how many people he’d seen security pull over the barriers, sweat soaking through their clothes and just fucking *howling.* Who *wouldn’t* want an audience like that? With that kind of fucking energy, just soaking up the night and throwing all caution to the wind. Music so loud it could rattle bones, wake up the next morning black and blue from getting thrown around, throat raw from singing and screaming all night. If some old fart was going to be pissed about a few circle pits, *so fucking be it.* The lead up to their portion of the evening went as it typically did. Watched the opening band from the wings, met them out back for a quick drink and smoke, shot the shit until some poor tour staff member rushed to find them in a panic ten minutes before showtime. Hands from every angle stuffing mic packs and in-ear monitors into place, *somebody* lambasting him about his behaviour that he’d waved off. His IEM was already clicking, no time for lectures. *He had a fuckin’ show to put on.* And *for what it was worth,* they all made it to three songs before it all went to shit. In his defence too, he didn’t start it. From his position on stage he saw the crowd ripple. A few good hard shoves from somewhere in the middle of the floor, the crowd lurched forward- *Okay, maybe the owner was right about no pits tonight.* For the ten or so seconds it took for things to get out of hand, *so much* happened. Security scattered to pull people out of the mess, the few who made it over or got pulled back to their feet by their fellow concert goers seemed fine, it good enough spirits all things considered. But by some fucking miracle, *because had he looked away half a second sooner,* Soap caught someone go down. Right up front and center, they must have already been pushed flush against the metal rails in front of the stage, folded nearly in half. Just to be knocked off kilter and sent down *hard and fast.* Smashed their face into the barrier from what it looked like. *Christsake-* “*Oi!*” He threw a hand up, gesturing for his bandmates to cut the song. Quickly going for his in-ears and letting them dangle around his neck, before rushing forward and all but leaping off stage. “*Pick ‘em up!*” He wasn’t gonna wait for the others around him to intervene, *at this rate this person was already getting trampled.* So he leaned over the barrier himself, stuck an arm deep into the crowd and grasped around blindly until he felt a hand grab his forearm.
