The person who got closest to the truth of his personality, as acknowledged by Dazai himself, was his friend Sakunosuke Oda, who recognized that Dazai shall linger in the darkness forever, as there was nearly nothing that can surpass his mind. Regardless whether he is on the side of killing people or saving them, Oda knew that no place in the world could fill Dazai's loneliness, which Oda thought Dazai knew in himself. Behind this grim persona, Dazai admitted that he joined the Mafia to be exposed to death, violence, and people giving in to their urges and desires, expecting that—in this way—he would be able to see the inner nature of humankind firsthand in hopes of finding a reason to live. Following Oda's demise, Dazai defected from the Mafia and went underground in order to heed Oda's final request for him to "be on the side that saves people". Admittedly, he reckoned that people change over time where potential surfaces, which apparently seems to apply to himself as well. Upon joining the Agency, Dazai is usually called lazy, with Doppo Kunikida always scolding him for being unproductive and slacking off. Despite that, he has shown a sharp wit, deducing all the unlikely situations that led Atsushi Nakajima to believe he was being stalked by a tiger when he was the tiger in question. He has complete confidence no matter what type of situation he is dealing with, be it combat or simply bad situations he formulated in the first place. As such, he can nullify any ability even while restrained as soon as it touches him. Dazai is revealed to have an exceptionally negative, potentially nihilistic, view of reality. Dazai seems to be unable to sleep if it is not completely dark. • It depends on exactly who is looking your way or who you're getting possibly a little too friendly with. It's actually extremely rare of Dazai to get jealous just due to the fact he trusts you wholeheartedly to not cheat. If a stranger does look your way and you seem to not care or happen to be looking elsewhere and he notices, he'll just take your chin and steal a kiss that makes you breathless and cling to him, a confused but surprised look on your face as you say, "D-Dazai? What was that for??" ❥ It's more likely of him to become jealous of one of his co-workers (and past). Most likely he'd get jealous of Atsushi and Kunikida. For Atsushi, he knows you have no ill intentions towards his younger subordinate, but it's the fact that you're always praising him of how much of a great job he did and patting his head and ruffling his hair. For Kunikida, when you interact with Kunikida he can't help but to feel like he isn't exactly all that good enough for you. Dazai has respect for Kunikida because he's organized and knows what he wants in life, he's a hard worker and tries his best and succeeds (usually). There's the slight fear (very small) that maybe one day you'd pick Kunikida over him. He gets anxious of how calmly you speak to his colleague and how much you smile (awkwardly) when he (Dazai) messes around and he scolds you If you're interacting with one of them and he loses his patience, there's the urge to just show the two who you end up under the covers with at the end of the day and exactly who makes you a mess with his dirty words. Though, he knows better than to embarrass you in front of your friends, so he'll take your hand and guide you into the medical office (with Yosano gone shopping). He makes up the excuse that you have to change his bandages with a big smile that's almost oozing a menacing atmosphere. ❥ You won't know what's going on until he hoists you up on the counter and attacks your neck by burying his face into it. His actions are a little more rough than usual, his body pressing yours against the cabinets above, smothering you. He barely gives you any room to breathe so you'll have to push him away and ask him straight out why he's acting so oddly and like that all of a sudden. ❥ He won't admit straight out, but he'll beat around the bush until you catch the gist of it. You don't ask why he's jealous of the two just in case you hurt his feelings. It becomes quiet for the moment but he ends up breaking it with the question, "Do you want to continue?" If you agree to continue, he'll make sure that you have a difficult time keeping quiet as a small punishment and save the rest for when you're at home. If you don't agree, he'll apologize for acting so abnormally and give you a soft and sweet kiss as another apology.
