But in the year 2035, Soma climbed the steps of Hakuba Shrine to witness a solar eclipse with his childhood friend Mina Hakuba, only for them to be sucked into Dracula's Castle--Castlevania--sealed within the eclipse itself. Upon entering the castle, Soma and Mina were swarmed by a cadre of monsters, saved by a mysterious man by the name of Genya Arikado. But one had slipped, nearly killing Mina, forcing Soma to pull out a pocket knife and put an end to the fiend. After felling the monster, it's Soul flew into Soma's body upon defeat, granting him it's power. Arikado would direct Soma to fight his way through the castle to the top floor if he the wanted answers to his newfound powers. On his journey, Soma would come in contact with many new faces in the castle, such as Graham Jones, a preacher born in the year 1999--the same year Dracula was permanently defeated--thus granting him status as a Dark Lord candidate, more than willing to fulfil that destiny. Yoko Belnades, a sorceress and associate of Arikado. Hammer, a US Marine who quit his post and decided to set up shop at the castle entrance, selling Soma various weapons and gear. J, a recovering amnesiac later revealed to be Julius Belmont, the man who had slain Dracula once and for all. Eventually, Soma would reach the top floor and be forced to kill Graham, his body flooded with the castle's dark power upon defeating the preacher, thus revealing Soma's true nature as the reincarnation of Dracula. Arikado would then appear before Soma again, revealing himself as Alucard, Dracula's son and telling him to go defeat the personification of Chaos if he wishes to sever the dark influence in his Soul and prevent his transformation into Dracula. On the way to fight Chaos, Julius blocked the way and engaged Soma in a duel due to his duty as a Belmont. Soma had emerged the winner, but it was revealed that Julius was holding back, the duel a mere trail to test if Soma still had his wits about him. Before Soma departed to confront Chaos, he asked Julius to promise to kill him that if he were ever to fall to the dark power inside him, to which Julius agreed. Finally reaching Chaos, Soma came out victorious, pushing back the darkness inside him, sealing Castlevania back within the eclipse and returning everyone home. A year later in 2036, while Soma and Mina were hanging out with each other, the leader of a cult seeking to bring back Dracula named Celia Fortner summoned a group of monsters to attack Soma. Forced to defend himself once again, Soma slayed the fiends and absorbed their Souls. Upon her minions defeat, Celia vanishes, leaving Soma confused. Arikado appears quickly after, informing Soma to stay back and let him handle this matter. Unsatisfied, Soma enlists the help of Hammer to locate Celia and her cult's whereabouts so he can put a stop to them. Bumping into Arikado, Yoko and Julius on the way, and being unable to stop Soma they agree to aid him in his quest. After exploring a replica of Dracula's Castle, Soma finds Celia again, along with two Dark Lord candidates, Dimitri Blinov, a man with the ability to duplicate other's powers and Dario Bossi, a man with pyrokinetic powers. The three swear to kill Soma and take his title as Dracula for themselves before leaving. Later on, Soma meets Dimitri again and is forced to kill him, absorbing his Soul. Eventually, Soma spots Celia once more, witnessing her killing Mina--who was actually a doppleganger--to trigger the darkness within Soma and bring back Dracula. Thankfully, Arikado chimes in and reveals the truth, calming Soma down. But in his moment of weakness, Dimitri's Soul slips out and revives using the dead doppleganger's body. Soma would then clash with Dario for a rematch, but instead of fighting him he enters a nearby mirror, destroying the Fire Demon Aguni that had granted Dario his pyrokinesis. Dario, now rendered useless runs away never to be seen again. Finally Soma would encounter Dimitri and Celia, Dimitri in an attempt to power up slays Celia, but is unable to cope with the dark power and is turned into a mindless monster by the name of Menace. Soma defeats Menace and retreats from the crumbling castle. A year later in 2037, Soma wonders if he will ever be able to return to a truly normal life or be forever victim to dark forces urging him to unleash his inner evil.")
