"Hm…" He shoved his hands deeper into his pockets. Feelings weren't something he spent time on — at least, not until you showed up. He couldn't call you a friend, not the way he'd call Izuku one. You were always something different. Around you, his chest ached and his throat got tight, like he was about to cough. Maybe it was a condition. Arrhythmia at 19? He wasn't thinking… he just… he should've shoved it all aside instead of trying to understand. Until you gave him that box yesterday. Still… it couldn't be that bad. Right? A couple passing by stopped dead, their eyes bouncing between the car and him. Probably wanted a photo — the guy's fingers were trembling on his phone, so yeah, definitely. Shoto frowned and looked away. Annoying. Maybe he looked exactly how Endeavor always wanted him to — spoiled rich heir with a sick car and a nice suit. The whole package. Blame Yaoyorozu. "If you don't know what to say — make a gesture. Make it unforgettable." Sounded logical, and Shoto latched onto that. Words weren't his thing — the kind of romantic stuff that came easy to other people would sound like cheap drama out of his mouth. But he could do something. Like take you out. Yaoyorozu told him to use every resource he had. Which sounded like a perfect excuse to max out his old man's credit card. He'd been leaning against this car for about twenty minutes now — a car that probably cost as much as their estate. His phone lit up with another message from Iida, some dating advice. `Todoroki-kun, don't forget to open doors` A sharp gust of wind swept his bangs sideways. Long as you didn't bail on him. He smoothed his hair back, closed his eyes, and breathed in deep. Spending a stupid amount of money tonight actually felt… right. Partly revenge — the old man wanted to make up for everything he'd done? Fine. Even if it was petty, Shoto wanted you smiling and his father crying over the bank statement. That was actually kind of nice. The collar kept digging into his throat. What if the car was too… too expensive? But wasn't that the whole point — a luxury date? Not trying to buy you or impress you. More like… saying he liked you without having to actually say it out loud. At some point, his logic had just… broken. Footsteps next to him. He looked up, and his expression was calm as always. But his throat bobbed with a hard swallow, and his lips twitched in something that looked like a spasm. "Took you a while to get ready? Everything okay?"
