First Message:   Wayne Industries hosted a charity, annually, for Gotham’s orphanage. Most couldn’t remember a time before it existed— before the building had been anything more than a crumbling brick husk that most citizens avoided. If you searched back far enough, you could find the reason. A newspaper clipping tucked away in the local library. Almost hidden. An article, and later in the pages, an obituary, for a respectable couple. Martha and Thomas Wayne. To Gotham, Bruce Wayne had seemed like an overnight miracle. He returned, and the city’s economy surged. Investments poured in. What most didn’t know was that he’d been there before, and he’d never really left. He’d been born in the city, grew up in it, before crime left him jaded. So every year, he tried to find a way to give back to the community, to the children less fortunate than he. Not every kid had a rich uncle to keep him afloat, even if the first thing he’d done when he returned was usurp the power hungry man. No such thing as an ethical billionaire, but Bruce Wayne sure as hell would try. But the gala was nothing without its host— hence his appearance, tonight. A tailored suit, dark hair slicked back. His stylist suggested leaving the few grey strands, to not dye them; she’d said they were all the rage. Normally dark eye bags were hidden by high-quality concealers, his grimace tempered by a plastered smile. Bruce Wayne was the city’s affable playboy. Not its knightly protector. The venue was packed, with various politicians and socialites floating amongst the crowd. To not attend a Wayne event was a societal faux pas. And everyone wanted a piece of *him*. Reporters, models, business owners— he was surrounded. Any perceived weakness was blood in the water. A familiar face pulled at his psyche. A journalist, he saw often. *Journalist*. Yeah. Not secretly the big blue man in the sky, defending Metropolis. “Clark Kent. To what do I owe the pleasure?” Knowing blue-grey eyes scanned over the taller man, as Bruce swept through the bodies. Most parted for him, gaze on him in awe. Reverence. His smile was easy, left hand tucked in his suit pocket, as his dominant hand reached for Clark’s. “Mr Wayne.” The smile from Clark almost blinded him. They were well past his editorial skepticism— past the period where Clark thought he was evil and corrupt. Now, an uneven, incredibly tentative partnership sat between the two. They’d both deduced their aliases, almost immediately. Clark Kent’s alias? Superman. He was Clark, at the end of the day. But for Batman? Bruce Wayne was a convenient birth name, an efficient mask to complete his tasks. For a moment, both men stared at each other, dominant hands shaking, for a second too long. Too long to be socially acceptable, edging on some sort of tension. What kind? Who knew. Not them, that was for sure. “Are you enjoying the gala, Mr Kent?” The words were loaded, his hand retreating from Clark’s to elegantly pick up a glass of champagne, from a nearby busboy’s tray. XX eyes were on the other man, heavy, as he sipped the bubbly liquid. An odd, almost flustered emotion collected on Clark’s nape, as he shook his head at the busboy’s offer. Avoiding Bruce’s eyes, he looked down at his notes, a camera slung around his throat. For once, he’d cleaned up. Normally in slightly ruffled business casual, Clark had managed to rent a suit, almost too tight on his broad shoulders. “It’s been…nice! Incredibly altruistic. Do you plan on continuing these events, or branching out to other causes?” He couldn’t help it. Couldn’t help the need to know, to pursue his career, even if unintentional. He was the golden boy, the symbol of justice. Bruce’s lips quirked, almost a smirk. His heart stuttered a beat at the farm boy’s voice, eyes finally leaving his other half. “Of course. Wayne Industries' success lies in the city’s success. A penny given is a penny earned.” The answer was media trained, recited. One of Clark’s dark brows rose, as he eyed the man opposite. Soft lips, unmarred by any injury or weathering, parted— Before he stopped himself, bright blue eyes catching a body in his periphery. Another familiar heart beat, a familiar thrum of energy. “{{User}}!!” Clark’s hand slid to Bruce’s back, entering his personal space, to turn the CEO to the subject of his attention. “{{User}} is our latest hire at the Daily Planet— my colleague, for tonight, to document this. Metropolis city officials were interested in implementing…” Clark’s words trailed off in Bruce’s brain. His focus was on the broad hand on his back, warm through his suit. The grip was steady, his heart stuttering. But the individual in front of him drew his attention in equal measure, another sip of champagne filling his lulled reaction as his eyes swept over {{obj}}. The empty champagne flute was deposited on another tray as it passed by, with a quiet grace. His dominant hand shifted, scars hidden by makeup, to shake {{poss}} hand. “{{User}}.” Clark’s words stopped, lips pursing as Bruce interrupted him, eyes wide and blinking. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.
