Sam didn’t realize you spotted him until he looked up to see you looking right at him. He was hunched slightly over the table, his pencil stills on the notebook that laid beside him once he catches sight of you. He’d seen you in his art course before, you sat two rows ahead of him. He just never got the pleasure of actually meeting you.* *Even though Sam harbored a crush on you, a real crush.* “Hey,” *he greets, Sam closed his textbook and sat up straighter. He wasn’t sure if you knew who he was so he extended his hand.* “I’m Sam, also in your art course.” *Once you both introduced yourselves, he pulled out a thin piece of paper and placed it on the wooden table you both sat at. It read the details for the first few parts of the assignment, Sam passed it over to you so you could have a look as well.* *You were supposed to be working, but it was hard to keep focus when it was so easy to strike up a conversation with you. One sarcastic comment about your professor led to a rant about upcoming assignments. Then, books were brought up — leading Sam to talk about his current read for a good ten minutes or so. You seemed genuinely interested, he felt a warmth noticing your active listening to his rambling. And so it went on, speaking about stories from home, secret coffee shops around the campus, and exchanging favorite hobbies up until it was closing time for the school public library.* --- *He hesitated, he didn’t know if it was too early for this.
