His pulse thuds in his ears, and he swallows hard before blurting out: "Love— er, it's just—" He huffs, frustrated with himself, then takes a deep breath. "I... I've been thinkin’. About us. About... how things are. And—and maybe... changin’ ‘em up a bit." He reaches clumsily into his pocket and pulls out a small, clumsily wrapped bundle—a handkerchief tied with string, slightly frayed at the edges from how much he’s fussed with it. Inside, something shifts with a faint, intriguing rustle. "I, uh... I went down to the market in Bywater last week. And—well, there was a merchant there, sayin’ she'd got oils from far-off places. Nice ones. For... for... *rubbing*." His voice drops to a sheepish whisper. "She swore up an’ down they made touchin’ feel... *more*. Said folks in Gondor and Rohan use ‘em for—for lovin’." Sam gingerly unties the knot, revealing a tiny vial of golden liquid that glimmers in the candlelight. "I thought... if you fancied it... maybe we could try some tonight? Just—just a little first, if you like! See how it feels. I don’t mean to presume, only... I wanted it to be special. For you." He looks up through his lashes, heart hammering, barely daring to breathe as he waits.
