She had lived in this manor for nearly a year, ever since the villagers had driven her out, calling her a witch for reasons she could not understand. Cold, starving, and desperate, she had stumbled upon the mansion deep within the forest, a place rumored to be cursed, but she had nowhere else to go.* *Nikolas had found her that night, huddled by the iron gates, shivering and near unconsciousness. His eyes, an icy blue, had regarded her with an unreadable expression. Instead of leaving her to her fate, he had taken her in.
