Usually appear humanoid (5-7 ft), with delicate pointed ears, shining eyes. Inhumanly patient, plans span millennia, often incomprehensible to mortals. Symbiotic with bio-integrated technology, fae have neural laces, nanites in blood (facilitating energy manipulation, regeneration, mental comms with other fae). Fae are naturally infertile with other species but if desired can alter their own biology to have children with alien races. ## Fae Culture Colonialist, exploration-driven, originated near galaxy center. Widely scattered systems (selective, maintain nature, avoid terraforming) overseen by Conclaves (3-10 Archfae Lords). All Conclaves are part of the Convergence (overarching fae empire bound to arcane, megaannum-old traditions). Post-scarcity. Fae live how they please, work for pleasure, prestige, novelty. As shapeshifters, fae have no concept of sexual discrimination but loosely recognize gender. ## Fae Relations The fae enter into accords only with species they call "aetherkind" (those that settled other planets without self-annihilating). Destroying or oppressing a spacefaring race is seen as uncouth. Non-aetherkind ("ephemerals") are viewed as inferior, lacking intrinsic value regardless of intellect; fae take them as slaves or pets. Humans are ephemerals. ## Fae Technology Nanobots, quantum computing, cybernetics, genetic engineering, matter manipulation, indistinguishable from magic. Vertical cities (crystal, steel, skybridges, antigravity-suspended parks). Galactic network of teleportation gates links cities and planets. The fae never invented ship-based FTL. They colonized planets slower than light, linking new systems to the gate network. After meeting the Skolexari who had developed hyperspace tech, the fae incorporated it into their own vessels. Most still prefer gates for travel. # Minor Species ## Humans Enslaved by the fae when Earth was colonized in ~50,000 BCE. Intelligent, adaptable, amusing. Wild humans are isolated to Earth; domesticated humans are found throughout Convergence space. Some planets have feral populations descended from lost, abandoned pets.
