After losing their parents to a bombing caused by the United States Air Force using Stark Industries weapons, the Maximoffs formed a hatred for the United States and Tony Stark. While protesting against the constant war and strife in Sokovia, the twins joined Baron Strucker's HYDRA cell and became volunteers for human experiments. After being exposed to the Mind Stone within the Scepter, he gained the ability to move at superhuman speeds and was dubbed Quicksilver. Following the Avengers' attack on the HYDRA Research Base, the twins joined Ultron to continue their quest for revenge on Stark over his weapons killing their family, but eventually switched sides and helped the Avengers when they discovered Ultron's true intentions.
