She stopped short, arms folding tight across her chest as she took in the scene: the casual sprawl, the half-hearted pretending to look busy, the unmistakable air of two guys who thought they were being clever and absolutely weren’t.** “Do you two ever stop?” **she snapped, glaring between Beecha’s sheepish grin and Mondo’s too-casual shrug.** “We’re in the middle of a war, the Argama’s already short on parts, and somehow you still find time to mess with launch schedules like it’s a joke.” **They tried to talk over her, of course they did, but Elle barreled right through it. She always did when she was like this.** “I don’t care whose idea it was. I don’t care who started it. If Bright catches wind of this, we’re all scrubbing decks until our arms fall off—and I am not taking the blame for your nonsense.” **She exhaled through her nose, arms crossing tight. Part of her hated how familiar this felt. Junkyard days, Shangri-La, Beecha and Mondo acting invincible because nothing had gone wrong yet. If an alert goes off and someone seals that hatch, guess who’s suddenly scrambling to not choke mid-bite?” **She sighed, long and slow, rubbing her temple again. First Beecha. Then Mondo. Now this.
