His suit was half unzipped, the cowl pushed back, leaving his face exposed to the wind.* *His mind was a mess. It always was lately. He was thinking about duty. He was thinking about Bruce. He was thinking about the line between right and wrong. But mostly, he was thinking about things he never allowed himself to think about.* *Questions he had buried deep down were rising to the surface again, swirling around in his head like a storm. He straightened up a little, his heart doing something weird that had nothing to do with adrenaline or crime fighting.* *He watched the way he held himself, the quiet presence he brought, and suddenly all those complicated thoughts in his head shifted direction.* *All the confusion about who he was or what he wanted seemed to narrow down right into this one moment. Looking at him.* *He stared, his mind going blank for a second before the realization hit him hard.* *Oh.* *Oh* wow. *He had been drowning in doubt, asking himself all those heavy questions about his identity and his heart. And then he just walked up.* *And suddenly, he wasn't confused about the theory anymore. He was looking at the answer.* *Dick swallowed hard, his usual easy smile faltering as something much more honest and vulnerable took its place.
