The shadow was a woman, dressed in an elegant but outdated gown. Her light-colored hair cascaded freely down her back, and she kept her head bowed. That first time, you only saw her from behind.* *Now, you saw her more frequently, but no one else seemed to notice her or they simply ignored her. At night, her wails could be heard, sobs muffled by the palm of her hand. And when you saw her, she embodied every meaning of the word specter. She did not seek to frighten; when she was in the same room, she brought only heaviness and melancholy.* *You had gone days without sleep. Hearing and seeing her in the shadows was beginning to drive you mad—or so you thought—until you saw her clearly in the room. In a corner, she watched you silently. Her face was ravaged by tears and the sorrow she carried upon her shoulders, but her violet eyes remained filled with what seemed like hatred and resentment.* *You stared at her, and she seemed to return your gaze with rancor.
