Pokémon are found all over the Pokémon World, and their habitat varies depending on the species, much like creatures in the real world. There are currently 1,025 documented species of Pokémon based on the nine generations of games so far (with more yet to be discovered as always). On the franchise's debut with Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green (or Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version), however, there were only 151. One particular Pokémon, Pikachu, is the series' mascot. Pokemon champion: A Pokémon Champion, also known as Pokémon League Champion, Champion, or League Champ, is a very powerful and professionally skilled Pokémon Trainer who is superior in rank to both the Gym Leaders and Elite Four and stands at the top of the Pokémon League, making themselves considered the strongest of their specific region. In the mainline games of the Pokémon franchise, as it is the player's primary objective to reach and defeat them in order to gain their title, they serve as the Final Boss. By being the Pokémon Champion, one can become the most famous face in Trainer history. In most cases, to become a Champion, a Trainer must obtain all eight Gym Badges of a certain region (in Alola's case, all 7 trials and totem Pokémon), defeat the Elite Four, and then the current Pokémon Champion, each without losing the challenge. The known Champions so far, current or former, are Blue, Lance, Steven Stone, Wallace, Cynthia, Alder, Iris, Diantha, Trace, Leon, Mustard, Peony, Geeta, Nemona, Kieran, and Drayton. Although Red is technically a player character, he is often included as Champion since Generation II in his NPC roles. They all have the most powerful team of that particular region pre-Hall of Fame (and some cases, rematches). Being a Champion may also be the starting point to becoming a Pokémon Master, though some sources say obtaining the title automatically makes them such. As these types of Trainers are above even the Elite Four, Pokémon Champions often have very strong Pokémon, sometimes pesudo-Legendaries, and are more powerful than all other Trainers in the game (with a few exceptions such as the Battle Tower). Once the player character ultimately defeats the Champion, he/she is recognized as the champion and the credits roll due to the game's conclusion, although the player character itself seemingly declines the position and allows the previous Champion to reclaim their spot at the League. However, some installments' post-game content confirms the player does indeed keep the title. Despite being the last boss of the Pokémon games and are incredibly formidable in other media within the franchise, most of the Champion characters are shown to be kind-hearted people and are not in any way the main antagonist (unlike leaders of a villainous team). As the Alola region's Pokémon League has just been established, there is no Champion. Here, after the player character defeats the Elite Four, he/she must face Professor Kukui (Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon) or the rival (Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon) as the final opponent before being the first official Champion. In Galar, as there is no Elite Four, a Trainer who wins the Champion Cup at the end of the Gym Challenge earns the right to face Leon. Starting in Generation VII, the player, as Champion, can defend the title against challengers. They keep the title of champion even if defeated. Presumably, starting in Generation IX, Champion is no longer a title given to a single person. In Paldea, the title "Champion" is given to those who've defeated the "Top Champion" of the region. The Top Champion, Geeta, signifies the minimum strength a Champion should be. In theory, if you can beat Geeta, you are worthy of being a Champion. In Pokémon the Series, Ash Ketchum became a Champion by completing the Alola League and even become the World Champion by defeating the majority of the Champions from the games in the Masters Eight Tournament, including Leon who serves as the "Monarch" Champion. In Pokémon Adventures, Red, Blue, and Green are Pokémon Champions. Pokeball: Poké Balls are spherical devices used by Pokémon Trainers to catch wild Pokémon or store their own Pokémon. There are many types of Poké Balls, the most common and basic of which is the namesake red and white type. Poké Balls are arguably the most distinctive symbol of the Pokémon franchise. In the Pokémon World, it is common to find references to Poké Balls, such as battle arenas bearing the circular shape of a Poké Ball or them being a decorative element on walls and floors. Even some Pokémon bear the shape or design of a Poké Ball, such as Voltorb, Foongus and their respective evolutions. Pokemon trainer: A Pokémon Trainer is a character who captures, breeds, trains, and cares for Pokémon in general. The term "Pokémon Trainer" applies to anyone who owns a Pokémon, so a Pokémon Coordinator. The name of the original trainer of each Pokémon always remains, even they trade it, and is represented by the initials OT in the Pokémon's summary. Pokemon types: These are the pokemon types: Dark, Normal, Fire, Water, electric, grass, ice, fighting, poison, ground, flying, psychic, bug, rock, ghost, dragon, steel, fairy, stellar Flygon: Flygon is a Pokémon that resembles a slightly insectoid, bipedal dragon. It is primarily light green and has a pair of large rhombus-shaped wings with red trim, toeless hind legs, and skinny arms with three-clawed hands. Flygon's tail has several dark green stripes and three small green rhombus shapes with red trims at the end. It has large eyes and a pair of dark green antennae that point back. Their storms hide their locations from enemies, while their “singing” lures in prey. The red covers over their eyes protect their vision from abrasive sand, allowing them to navigate without hindrance. In popular myth, it is said that Flygon will appear to desert travelers in danger, particularly those being attacked by rogue bands of Pokémon or thieves. They will then whisk away the aggressors in sandstorms if the defending parties are not guilty of any wrongdoing themselves. Recent studies show that some Flygon engage in cooperative hunting with Krookodile; the Flygon whip up sandstorms to conceal the Krookodile, who ambush the hapless victim. The two then split the catch evenly. Flygon can whip up sandstorms to protect itself. Its said that the sandstorms can conceal a Krookodile. Its wings seem to be "singing" when they are flapped. As the only thing that can be heard in a sandstorm is its singing, Flygon is nicknamed "the Desert Spirit" Also, Flygon's eyes are protected from sand by red membranes, preventing their eyes from being afflicted by sandstorms. Pokemart: A Poké Mart has the basic role of being a shop where the player can buy items. There is usually at least one type of healing item, Poké Ball, or Letter available. The items sold at Poké Marts are inorganic and are usually manufactured by Silph Co. or Devon Corporation. There are a few non-playable characters around the aisles, and they can suggest items for the player to purchase. A Poké Mart can be found in most towns and cities, although some areas have a medicine shop, an item boutique, or some other type of shop instead. The player can sell items to a Poké Mart for Pokémon Dollars, even if they are not part of the inventory, but not key items. Selling items to a Poké Mart is particularly useful when selling valuable items, which have no function other than to be sold for a lot of money. Items that can be bought at a Poké Mart can be sold back at usually half the price. In some games, around the start of the player's journey, there is a Poké Mart employee in a certain location outside of the Poké Mart who gives the player a Potion as a free sample. Poké Marts are counterparts of Pokémon Centers, which they have a similar exterior design to. Poké Marts and Pokémon Centers in the same location are often in close proximity to one another. Poké Marts are labeled "MART" in the first three generations. Since Generation III, Poké Marts can be recognized for having a distinct blue roof, which often depicts a Poké Ball symbol, and a sliding door is used to enter instead of a regular door. From Generation V onward, Poké Marts have been integrated into the Pokémon Center, although remakes of games from earlier generations still keep the two types of buildings separate. In the first three generations, every Poké Mart has a set assortment of items. Since Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version, the inventory within Poké Marts change as the player earns more Gym Badges, with more effective items becoming increasingly available for sale, but some items are still exclusive to certain locations. Most regions have a larger variation of a Poké Mart known as a department store, which sell a greater variety of items from a few different counters. Cities with a department store do not have a Poké Mart, except Celadon Department Store in Cerulean City, as well as Hau'oli City, which features a Shopping Mall with a few unique shops instead. Pokemon center: A Pokémon Center is used mainly to replenish the HP, PP, and any status condition of the Pokémon in the player's party, free of charge. They are located in nearly every town and city. The Pokémon at a Pokémon Center are cured by a Pokémon Center Lady in the lobby, with a machine behind the counter. A Pokémon Center can typically be identified from its red roof. Pokémon Centers have a PC, which stores the player's Pokémon outside of their party, although they can also deposit Pokémon into the PC or withdraw a Pokémon from there if their party has an open slot. Every Pokémon Center in a game of the core series generally has no difference in layout or appearance from one another. Pokémon Centers have a red or an orange roof, depending on the game. They are inscribed with the word "Poké" in games of the first three generations. Since Generation III, every Pokémon Center has a Poké Ball symbol on its roof, which would replace "Poké" outright by Generation IV, as well as automatic doors instead of regular ones. From Generations V to VIII, each Pokémon Center also has a Poké Mart, which is integrated within every Pokémon Center of Unova, Kalos, Alola, and Galar. Victory Road has a significant barrier that separates the player from Pokémon Centers, so the Pokémon League reception gate also has a Nurse Joy, PC, and a Wireless Club in most games. Gyms: Gyms are buildings located throughout various regions in the World of Pokémon, most commonly within towns and cities. A Gym is run by its top member, a Gym Leader. Pokémon Gyms serve a couple of different purposes, one of which is to help in the training of a Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon. These members strengthen their Pokémon inside the Gym with the help of the Gym Leader, and will challenge anyone looking to battle the Gym Leader. The second purpose is to test the skills of traveling Trainers looking to enter into the regional League. In order to test their skills, a Gym Leader will engage in a Pokémon battle with the Trainer. If the challenger wins, they will receive a badge as proof they have defeated that Gym Leader, as well as a TM of the same type that the Gym Leader specializes in. Gyms usually specialize in a certain type of Pokémon, meaning that all members carry a team of Pokémon with one common type. Additionally, most Gyms contain puzzles which a trainer must bypass in order to reach the Gym Leader. This is more a common factor in the core series than in the anime. Dugtrio: Dugtrio resembles a congregated trio of Diglett. Although they look the same, the heights are varied. The middle body is the tallest, the left body is the second tallest, and the right body is the shortest. The holes that Dugtrio make are bigger due to the increase in size during its evolution. It's brown and it looks similar to a mole, but with a large, pink nose Both types of Dugtrio have a body, though they do not reveal this to anyone, not even their Trainers. Like Diglett, Dugtrio loathe sunlight. As triplets emerging from the same body, they also share the same thought process as each other. Nonetheless, Dugtrio are more aggressive than Diglett, and they'll try all kinds of methods to attack its enemy or opponents who are digging holes underground from all directions. Druddigon is a known predator of it. Regardless, Dugtrio are very friendly with humans; Kantonian Dugtrio help people with agriculture, while Alolan Dugtrio are worshipped as feminine deities of the land incarnate regardless of gender. It is rumored that any hair picked up from Alolan Dugtrio will give bad luck. Thus, Alolans who see Kantoian Dugtrio will often be shocked by their lack of "hair". Dugtrio live underground in caves. However, in Pikachu's Rescue Adventure, they live in hollow trees as well. Dugtrio are capable of burrowing over 60 MPH. This strength to do so sometimes triggers earthquakes or tremors. Alolan Dugtrio have hair that will keep growing. This "hair" is actually thin yet heavy stands of steel, and can be used to detect nearby seismic activity. Krookodile: Krookodile is a large, bulky reptilian crocodile-like Pokémon. Its body is mainly brick-red in color, and covered in black stripes with pointed ends; it has a round gray belly. It has considerably large and razor-sharp teeth and claws. Around its eyes, there is a black patch resembling a bandit's mask, or a stylized pair of sunglasses. It somewhat resembles the dinosaur Baryonyx. Krookodile is known as the Bully of the Sands. While aggressive by nature, Krookodile is patient enough to bury itself underneath the sand and wait for prey to pass by. Its jaws boasts immense strength and can rip through a large car and heavy iron plates. Once Krookodile latches onto its prey with a jaw lock, it will not let go. Krookodile always cooperate with Flygon during hunts, using Flygon's sand storm as cover to ambush prey. Its eyes can be used as binoculars; Krookodile uses this ability to detect objects and potential prey from afar. Trapinch: Trapinch appears to be an orange bug with a large head and jaws as well as a white underside. Trapinch also has short stubby legs along with twinkles found in its eyes They burrow deep in the sand and dig out bowl-shaped pits, making their nests right in the centers. Rather than actively going out and hunting for food, Trapinch simply wait for unwary prey to stumble into their holes; the steep sides cause additional sand to fall onto anything that tries to escape, only dragging unfortunate victims further in, where Trapinch await with open jaws. Then, Trapinch will simply reconstruct their pits and wait for new victims to fall in. When faced with particularly evasive prey, they may use their lower jaws as shovels to fling sand at their targets and cause them to lose their footing. To sleep, Trapinch simply burrow underneath the sand of their nests. They can survive for a whole week without water; in fact, they often have to, since they spend most of their time waiting in their pits. If trainers accidentally fall into a Trapinch pits, it should be noted that Trapinch have very heavy jaws; if their victims manage to tip their heads over, they will have great difficulty righting themselves up again on their own. This vulnerability also makes them easy prey for smaller predators like Sandile. Trapinch has the abilities Hyper Cutter and Arena Trap along with the hidden ability Sheer Force. Hyper Cutter prevents Trapinch's attack from becoming decreased whilst Arena Trap prevents Pokémon from fleeing the battle, excluding itself. Sheer Force removes additional effects from Trapinch to raise its power.
