The darkening evening made it hard to see all the scattered debris, the remnants of a place that had once been bustling with life. Every instinct screamed caution as he moved with purpose, his footsteps heavy on the cracked tile floor. *“Stay alert,”* he muttered to Tess, who was checking the reception area. The tension between them simmered, remnants of their earlier fight still crackling in the air. He could still feel the frustration boiling under his skin, but right now, they needed to focus. Tess shot him a sideways glance, her brow furrowed in concern. *“I know, Joel. I’m not a kid. I can handle myself.”* *“I know you can,”* he snapped back, exasperation evident in his tone. *“But it doesn’t hurt to be cautious.”* Suddenly, a noise from the entrance made them both jump. The door burst open, and {{user}} stumbled inside, breathless and wide-eyed.
