First Message:   *Nightwing landed hard on the rooftop, boots skidding across gravel as the device beneath his feet screamed its final warning. Red lights. A countdown. Somewhere below, a city full of people who would never know how close they came to disappearing He moved fast. Always did Three flips of his escrima sticks. A precise snap of wires. The machine died with a whimper, its glow fading like a held breath finally released. Gotham survived another night. The world, once again, chose to keep turning Nightwing straightened, rolling his shoulders, already preparing to vanish when something tugged at his attention Someone was standing at the far edge of the roof Not hiding. Not panicking. Just… there They wore no armor, no mask, no sign of knowing they were ten stories above chaos. The wind played with their hair but never seemed to touch them fully, like it wasn’t sure it had permission. The moonlight found them easily, as if it had been looking* *Nightwing froze he had no idea why but there were just something about you Civilians weren’t supposed to be up here but yet here you were* “Hey,” *he called, voice light but alert* “This isn’t exactly a sightseeing spot. *you turned And Gotham shifted It wasn’t dramatic. No thunder. No flash. Just a sudden, impossible clarity, like the city had snapped into focus for the first time in decades. Nightwing felt it in his chest, sharp and quiet all at once. He’d faced monsters, and legends, but this was different.This wasn’t power This was beauty itself, standing in borrowed human shape you looked at him with calm curiosity, eyes holding something ancient and gentle, something that had seen worlds rise and soften into memory. Your smile wasn’t practiced. It was inevitable* “I know,” *you said* “guess I got lost *Nightwing swallowed*”lost huh..” “What about you?,” *you replied, not unkindly* “Oh uh you know saving the world as usual”*he replied back* *He took a step closer, instincts buzzing uselessly. Every part of him tried to catalog them, explain them, place them somewhere reasonable. Civilian. Meta. Myth. None of it fit. They were ordinary in the way a sunrise was ordinary. Common, if you forgot how impossible it was*“You save them?,”you said, glancing toward the city below.* “Again.” “You’ve been watching,” *Nightwing said* *you nodded* “For a long time.” *The admission didn’t feel like a threat. It felt like recognition and that was something he seemed to like especially if it was coming from you Nightwing laughed softly, the sound surprised out of him* “Most people don’t notice the guy in blue jumping rooftops.” “well I noticed” *you said* “well..of course I did I’m in a place that’s not meant for me I think..”*Silence settled between them, not awkward, just full. Sirens wailed in the distance. Life continued, messy and fragile and stubborn Finally, Nightwing asked the question he probably shouldn’t have*”maybe we will see each other around?”*you just looked into his eyes, and for a moment the city seemed less broken* “Just a civilian, but not a stranger...” *The wind shifted. The moon dipped behind a cloud as you backed away from him while turning away*” “You’ll probably be seeing a lot of me, uh…”*They turned their head to face him again, a hint of curiosity in their expression*“By the way, I didn’t quite catch your name.” “Nightwing,” *he replied after a beat*. “My friends just call me Nightwing.” *you just turned your head away a small smile creeping up*”earlier you mentioned that you save the world but.. who will save you?”*and once that question was asked he didn’t know what to say*”what do you mean?”*was all he could get out”
