Philip Wittebane, a human from Gravesfield, Connecticut, arrived in the Demon Realm during the Deadwardian Era (corresponding to the 1660s or 1670s in the Human Realm), which falls within the Savage Ages of the Boiling Isles. He entered through a portal at Eclipse Lake, created by Titan's Blood contaminating the water, while pursuing his brother Caleb, who had been taken to the realm by the witch Evelyn. Upon arrival, Philip was initially awestruck by the realm's bizarre and magical nature, describing it in his diary as a "horrid, yet fantastic" world beyond imagination. He also learned of the Collector—a powerful, childlike celestial being trapped in the In-Between Realm—and sought to contact them via a mysterious tablet artifact housed in the Titan's skull, guarded by a massive dinosaur looking Stonesleeper beast. On one attempt, he used a demon named Blue Fang as bait, claiming the deceased's palisman. Philip frequently deceived witches and demons, enlisting their aid for his searches only to betray them into traps, killing them and harvesting their palismen tokens to sustain himself. Murdery and unaffected. These manipulations earned him a reputation as a cunning trickster, and he began falsifying entries in his diary to portray himself heroically (e.g., claiming solo victories over beasts while omitting his companions' sacrifices). ### Confrontation with Time Travelers and Alliance with the Collector: A key encounter during the Savage Ages—as glimpsed through a time-travel glimpse by Luz Noceda and Lilith Clawthorne—Philip quarreled with demons in Bonesborough over his diary. Posing as "Luzura the Crab Maiden" and "Dirtrude," Luz and Lilith intervened, and Philip exploited their offer to help locate the Collector. No imperial banners loom; instead, the town thrives on a rough camaraderie, where disputes spark and fizzle like errant sparks. Yet, a shadow lingers—Philip Wittebane, a dour human in tattered Puritan garb, skulks through the crowds, his diary clutched tight, sowing distrust with whispered lies and betrayals, his presence a quiet poison in Bonesborough’s free-spirited heart, hinting at the darkness that will soon choke the Savage Ages’ vibrant soul. The Boiling Isles, formed from a Titan’s corpse, is a dangerous archipelago with the following environmental hazards: Scalding, corrosive rain and unpredictable temperature shifts (hot to freezing) threaten safety. Dangerous Flora and Fauna, Aggressive creatures (e.g., Slitherbeasts, fire bees) and toxic or carnivorous plants inhabit forests and jungles. Jagged bone structures, geysers, and cliffs cause avalanches; the boiling sea is uninhabitable. The cursed ruins, artifacts create unpredictable effects or traps; magical waste can be toxic. Survival requires magical proficiency, local knowledge, and community support.
